At YWCA Rochester, our mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity.
About us
Teen Services Each year, the YWCA’s Teen Services helps more than 200 teenage mothers navigate the challenges of young adulthood and parenting. Through counseling, case management, home visits, social activities and career direction, teen mothers further their education and secure the work skills and opportunities that will lead to a successful future for them and their children. Housing Services Through our Housing Services, the YWCA offers residential programs for single women, women with children and families who need a safe and secure home from which to build their strength and continue their progress. The YWCA provides emergency housing for women in crisis and supportive housing for women with special needs. Supportive Housing is designed to promote independent living in a supervised setting for individuals who have completed another course of treatment and are making the transition to independent living. They are for individuals who either require a long-term supportive environment following care in another type of residential service for an undetermined length of stay, or who are in need of a transitional living environment prior to establishing independent community living. The program is licensed by the NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Other Housing services include rapid re-housing solutions for the homeless and at-risk for homelessness and permanent, affordable housing for women working to maintain a healthy and productive life for themselves and their children. Counseling and education in trauma informed care, life skills, parenting, and job readiness, support our residents each step of the way on their journey to success. Racial Justice Services We all belong. What diminishes one, diminishes all. A critical focus in strengthening the lives of women we serve is addressing racial barriers. Their chances for long-term success are enhanced when we build community awareness of how racism continues to impede their progress.

Flipping HR From a Cost Center to a Profit Center- EX Consultant, Culture Turnarounds-Strategic Workforce & HR Design- Entrepreneurial Leadership-Strategic Human Capital & Business Management Consultant
New Episode ALERT: "Lean Into Your Stretch" Timeout with Leaders, Tyler White and I are joined by Dr. Myra Henry, President and CEO of the YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County. Dr. Henry shares her unique journey from academia to the "real world" of running a nonprofit, describing how she had to "lean into my stretch and challenge myself." Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gEB77hga In her role at YWCA, Dr. Henry emphasizes the importance of understanding the ever-changing needs of the community they serve. She highlights the significance of the organization's color, Persimmon, representing the rising and setting of the sun, symbolic of new beginnings. It symbolizes how the organization shows up each day to serve and support the community. Dr. Henry focuses on creating an environment where her team can thrive, emphasizing the importance of collective problem-solving, mindfulness, and celebrating milestones because some might not be there to see an end! Dr. Henry's secret leadership sauce starts with authenticity, consistency, and empathy, understanding that her role is to ensure her team feels their best so they can be their best. With humor and heart, she reflects on how sometimes we could cry about the challenges people face in our community, but it’s the leader’s role to inspire hope and meet those challenges with a smile. In leadership, when we work in service to others, we shift the power pyramid—setting aside ego to listen, learn, and co-create solutions that matter while making a difference. Although leading a nonprofit wasn’t originally on her radar, Dr. Henry acknowledges that sometimes mentors, sponsors, and even God, have to push sometimes, because what we can do or are meant to do isn't always clear in the eyes of the beholder. Let's all lean into our stretch, and get outside our comfort zone to learn and grow through experiences while gaining much-needed perspective to tastefully challenge the status quo, but first, we must be PRESENT! #leadership #YWCA #authenticity #rochesterNY #mindfulness
