GEDI will be hosting week 2 of our Intensive Economic Development training course this week and we invite our participants to join some of our staff as we mix and mingle with our Your Town Alabama friends. Adaptive reuse can be a great investment for rural communities. Green Haven, an Airbnb container house in downtown Elba, is a prime example of how adaptive reuse can drive economic development. Green Haven promotes: ♻️ Sustainability by recycling an unused building. 👥 Long-term community investment by fostering entrepreneurship.  🌎 Tourism with a unique experience in a historic downtown. The Community Seeds 2024 Symposium on Housing was a success! We enjoyed building community with other passionate professionals while learning from experts on how Alabama’s small and rural communities might address the ongoing housing shortage in America. A few key highlights: 1️⃣ Provide people with attainable housing options by developing different types. 2️⃣ Affordability is multifaceted. 3️⃣ Collaboration and relationships key. 4️⃣ Housing can be economic development. Today, we’re in Prattville for the Community Seeds Symposium on Housing. We’re gathering to discuss ways that communities can address the housing issues that are creating challenges for growing populations, retaining youth, and recruiting businesses.
