Tapping into community resources (hint hint: people!) when you're planning for the future will help you create a more vibrant community. Thank you Auburn University Government & Economic Development Institute for inviting us to join a few of our partners on a panel to discuss what that can look like for communities across Alabama.
Panel discussions are popular with our Intensive Economic Development participants because hearing about successes and challenges experienced by professionals in the field helps them to apply the ideas and concepts they learn in the program, and gives them a network of people to call on when needed. We've had two great panels so far this week. Gina Clifford from DESIGN ALABAMA INC, Mary M. Jackson, MA, MMC from ALABAMA COMMUNITIES OF EXCELLENCE, Matthew Leavell from Your Town Alabama and Mary Helmer Wirth, CMSM from Main Street Alabama discussed placemaking and community resources with our group yesterday. Today, Jim Byard Jr of Byard Associates, LLC, Hollie Cost from University Outreach at Auburn University, Commissioner Lee Patterson of Calhoun County and Association of County Commissions of Alabama and Mayor Gordon Stone of Town of Pike Road spoke about the role of elected officials in economic development. We appreciate all of these panelists for sharing their time and expertise with our group and for their willingness to connect with our participants and help them achieve success. #intensive #economicdevelopment #communitydevelopment #placemaking #communityresources #electedofficials #gediau #auburn #outreach #professionaldevelopment #training Spire
