About us
THE YMCA MISSION: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING, & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, our staff—of all ages and from diverse backgrounds and life experiences—work to bridge the gap in community needs by nurturing the potential of children and teens, improving the nation’s health and wellbeing and providing support to our neighbors. Simply put, the Y is for everyone. Imagine going to work knowing that what you do each day positively affects the lives of the people in your community. Working at the Y, you’ll enjoy a career with a future and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of those around you. The YMCA has been a part of Nashville and Middle Tennessee since 1875. Today, we serve a membership base in excess of 200,000 through 15 membership centers. We also provide before- and after-school care at more than 120 locations, serving more than 5,500 children. We live our not-for-profit, charitable mission daily by providing life-changing programs and services that enrich people from all walks of life.

We are thrilled to share that the Northwest Family YMCA is one of 343 grantees selected to receive a 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant from AARP Livable Communities and AARP Tennessee! We are incredibly proud that AARP selected us for this investment to bring increased technology education to the Northwest YMCA, and to make technology more accessible for residents of all ages. Mia McNeil (Tennessee State Director), Rita Martell (Director of Volunteers) and Stacy Pennington (Senior Community Outreach Director, Middle Tennessee) of AARP joined John Mikos (CEO), Roy Brown (Executive Director of Northwest Family YMCA) and Justin Bauer (Executive Director, Sponsored Programs) for a visit to the new Technology and Support Lab at the Northwest Y, made possible due to the generous support of AARP. The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements in communities that jump-start long-term change. It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages.
