Building on a history of collaboration, #XPRIZEWildfire is thrilled to continue our partnership with Esri to map the future together and leverage Esri’s GIS software and expertise to help strengthen our competitions and power team success. We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Esri on the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE and have continued to expand the partnership with XPRIZE Rainforest, with Esri providing in-kind software to alumni teams to help translate their data into conservation dashboards and other programs. XPRIZE Wildfire and Esri aim to collaborate on a variety of areas throughout the life of the prize to raise awareness, enhance capacity, and accelerate innovative technological solutions to destructive wildfires. The partnership will: 🔥 Improve the public’s understanding of the opportunities and challenges around detection, management, and prevention of destructive wildfires. 🔥 Support the diverse and skilled teams competing in the prize. 🔥 Provide free Esri software licenses and technical support to teams in both tracks of the XPRIZE Wildfire competition. 🔥 Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration between key stakeholders in the wildfire space around shared solutions to end destructive wildfires. …and more! We are grateful for Esri’s support and partnership to continue the impact of this groundbreaking prize. A big thank you to the Swinburne University of Technology for hosting the #XPRIZEWildfire Space-Based Track Team Summit. This event brought together fire service leaders, subject matter experts, and competing teams from around the world with the goal of transforming wildfire detection and management. Read more in the blog here. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/giHvw2ch cc: Anousheh Ansari, Catherine Ball, Peter Houlihan, Andrea Santy, Jay Stalnacker, Colin Peartree, Cat Kutz
Around the world, wildfires are increasing in intensity, frequency and destruction, and innovation to detect and manage them hasn't kept pace with the mounting challenges. Through the #XPRIZEWildfire Space-Based Wildfire Detection & Intelligence track, 20 XPRIZE teams from around the world gathered on our campus to find a solution. The three-day event brought together scientists, engineers and startups from around the world to transform bushfire detection and management. Professor Alan Duffy, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Flagship Initiatives at Swinburne, said the Summit reflects the university’s drive to bring people and technology together to build a better world. “The XPRIZE Wildfire Track A Teams Summit shows how innovation can solve humanity’s greatest challenges – in this case, preventing destructive wildfires through groundbreaking detection technologies,” Professor Duffy said. “Australian and international teams, including Swinburne staff members, are exploring new ways to identify bushfires as early as possible – something that’s urgently needed as climate change makes bushfires both more frequent and more intense.” Anousheh Ansari, XPRIZE CEO ,and Dr Catherine Ball, XPRIZE Wildfire Advisory Board member, visited Swinburne ahead of the XPRIZE Wildfire Track A Teams Summit. We’re thrilled to announce that finals testing for the #XPRIZEWildfire Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track will take place in…Australia! 🇦🇺 Australia was selected for the XPRIZE Wildfire finals due to its unique and diverse fire-adapted landscapes, which provide an ideal testing ground for the advanced technologies the competing teams are developing. The country has a history of significant wildfire events, such as the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires, making it a critical region for the development of innovative solutions in wildfire detection and management. By hosting the finals here, we are not only putting these technologies to the test in real-world conditions but also contributing to the global effort to reduce the frequency and severity of extreme wildfires. The winning technology in the Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track will address the greatest barrier to how we currently fight fires by rapidly and accurately detecting all fires across a vast and remote area and transmitting data to ground stations. “We look forward to watching the teams put their solutions to the test and integrate successful solutions in the future for end users in Australia and around the world.” - XPRIZE Wildfire Program Director Andrea Santy To learn more about the finals testing location for the XPRIZE Wildfire Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track, read our blog here. https://lnkd.in/gKcsbeyu XPRIZE Wildfire is supported by: Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Pacific Gas and Electric Company Minderoo Foundation Lockheed Martin Conrad N.
