We celebrate Deaf Awareness all year long, but September is a month filled with lots of great information and events!
September is Deaf Awareness Month, bringing visibility to and awareness of the communication needs and unique identity of deaf and hard of hearing people. Deaf Awareness Month aims to increase public awareness of Deaf issues, people and culture, emphasizing the positive aspects of deafness, encouraging social inclusion and raising awareness of the organizations locally, nationally and globally that support those who are deaf. About 13%, or 30 million people, of the United States' population (1 in 8) are deaf or hearing impaired The first International Day of the Deaf was celebrated by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) in 1958. The day of awareness was later extended to a full week, becoming the International Week of the Deaf, observed annually throughout the last full week of September (to commemorate the first World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf, which took place in September 1951). International Week of the Deaf begins September 20. Thank you all of WORK Inc’s Deaf Employees for your hard work helping to achieve our mission! WORK Inc.

Spent an inspirational day up on Capital Hill with Camron, a self-advocate, who works at the Volpe Transportation Center in Cambridge. Met with several legislative offices to discuss how employment impacts Camron’s life. #iamsonebody #imakeanimpact Congressman Jon C. Porter (ret) Rep. Jake Auchincloss
