Sharing this interesting article. How many of you have a spouse who stays home to provide the job of caregiver and primarily take care of household responsibilities? How has that positively impacted your ability to thrive in your career? #womeninfunds
It's no secret that Wall Street has struggled to elevate and retain women. The industry is hyper-competitive and demands long hours and frequent travel, features that many women say are incompatible with having children. My story today is about how a number of top women in finance have made it work--namely by having a husband who stays home with the kids. These "househusbands" have taken on the role of primary caregiver, allowing their wives to devote more time and energy to their careers. Society still expects men to be the primary breadwinners, and men who are househusbands told me they still get weird looks when they tell strangers they stay home with the kids. But that is starting to change. In 45% of U.S. opposite-sex marriages, the wife earns as much as or more than her husband, a share that has roughly tripled over the past 50 years, according to a 2023 report from Pew Research Center. Dads represented 18% of stay-at-home parents in 2021, up from 11% in 1989, another Pew study found. While it's possible to have both spouses make it work in demanding careers, these high-powered women are almost universally competing against men whose partners stay home. Are you or someone you know in this position? I'd love to hear more about what drove your choice. https://lnkd.in/enPMqc8G

Check out the newest episode of our Experts & Insights educational series produced with our community partner TalksOnLaw. The departure of a principal or key figure from a private fund can have profound implications, negatively impacting investor relations, halting the investment period, or triggering automatic redemptions. In this discussion, Desiree Busching, a labor and employment attorney, and Ira Kustin, a private funds lawyer, and member of our Advisory Board, delve into the complexities surrounding fund owner departures. They explore how well-crafted contracts, particularly those involving management and fund structure (sometimes called the "upper tier arrangements") can ensure stability and that rights and obligations are clearly defined, minimizing the friction that can accompany high-level exits. Desiree Busching and Ira Kustin are partners at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, a Champion Sponsor of #womeninfunds. #education #talksonlaw #whistleblowerprotection #uppertier #disputes #equity Attorney CLE accreditation (FREE for WOMEN IN FUNDS members) AZ: General : 0.5 CA: General : 0.5 CT: General : 0.5 NY: Areas of Professional Practice : 0.5 (newly-admitted & experienced attorneys) Link to episode: https://lnkd.in/eqHJtU_6
