We’re thrilled to spotlight Mats Granryd, GSMA's Director General and a true advocate for women’s digital #FinancialInclusion, as part of our celebration of Making Finance Work for Women for 45 Years. Through his work, Mats has seen firsthand how mobile technology has transformed the lives of millions across Asia and Africa. Despite progress, a significant #GenderGap in mobile internet adoption persists, with 265 million fewer women online in across low- and middle-income countries. The GSMA’s Mobile Gender Gap Report 2024 shows a slight improvement, but more focus, investment, and partnerships are needed. Read more: https://bit.ly/4glmAyw

Women’s World Banking, in collaboration with the Cambodian Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the National Bank of Cambodia, recently hosted a transformative workshop in Phnom Penh, highlighting the crucial role of #FinancialInclusion in empowering women to make informed decisions about their lives and fully participate in economic and social activities. Her Excellency Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs emphasized, “Financial inclusion empowers women economically, reduces vulnerability, and helps escape poverty, contributing to gender equality. Access to financial services enables women to save, start businesses, invest in education, develop careers, and support their families and communities.” H.E. Dr. Serey Chea shared insights on the National Bank of Cambodia’s initiatives, including the launch of the Bakong App, which facilitates money transfers for businesses, especially benefiting women in rural areas with limited mobility. “We partner with other organizations to advance financial inclusion strategies and enhance economic opportunities for women,” she stated. To achieve these goals, the collection and analysis of gender-disaggregated data are essential to better understand the financial needs and barriers faced by women in rural and underserved areas. Thank you to all who attended and for your commitment to developing a more inclusive financial landscape for women in Cambodia!
H.E. Dr. Serey Chea, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, and H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs, chaired a consultative workshop on “Promoting the Financial Inclusion For Women ”on August 29, 2024 in Phnom Penh, supported by Women's World Banking. The workshop aims to gather input for the development of the framework for promoting the financial inclusion for women and to raise awareness of the framework, as well as seeking additional support from ministries, development partners, and stakeholders. The process of developing the framework for promoting the financial inclusion for women is the subject of a memorandum of understanding between the National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Women's Affairs to develop a master plan and roadmap to support the promotion of gender equality and the financial inclusion for women to include in the implementation of the national financial inclusion strategy. #financial #inclusion #women

Meet Allen from Kampala, Uganda. After an accident impacted her mobility, our partnership with Finance Trust Bank Uganda allowed her to access micro-insurance for hospital fees and medical costs. In a country where 30% of people live in poverty, injuries can be devastating, particularly for women entrepreneurs, who businesses are more likely to be liquidated in a time of crises vs. their male counterparts. In India, the power of a gender-intentional digital public infrastructure has been evident in government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which celebrates its 10th anniversary today and stands as a testament to India's commitment to #FinancialInclusion. We partnered with public sector banks in 21 Indian states to bring this savings solution to over 14.5 million women. By focusing on the specific needs of #women, we expanded its offerings to include insurance, pensions, and credit, helping women access a broader range of financial services. Women's financial inclusion is not only an economic imperative, but also an accelerator of sustainable development for all.
