Democrats just pulled off one of the biggest brand turnarounds in history In my latest story for Fast Company, I take a look back at the Democratic National Convention—in all of its carefully choreographed intent. Starting with a DNC brand led by Ben Ostrower from Wide Eye eight months ago—a brand many people probably had no clue was built directly from Biden’s—Democrats presented skyscraping letterform messaging, a blue so dark it reads as haute black, and a bacon-y re-appropriation of the American flag. Visually, it was confident, patriotic, and mature—the sort of staging where you could never imagine Hulk Hogan ripping off his shirt—while an audience full of light up garb brought the party atmosphere, from the playlists of Roll Call to the DJs who filled space between speeches. On this set, joy countered a long narrative of doom. Political enemies were reframed as neighbors. But humor was often the most eviscerating weapon, to reframe Republicans from the superficially “weird” to patently “ridiculous.” In this powerful acceleration of premise, Project 2025 became a prop worthy of Carrot Top, while the one-two punch of double Obamas deflated Donald Trump. They gave Darth Vader the full Space Balls treatment. And Trump, deflated into a shell of his presidential self, was easy fodder for Harris’ final blows. “It’s now our turn to do what generations before us have done. Guided by optimism and faith, to fight for this country we love, to fight for the ideals we cherish, and to uphold the awesome responsibility that comes with the greatest privilege on earth. The privilege and pride of being an American,” she said. Read my full story here: https://lnkd.in/gUDhkR2j

Had a great conversation with Mark Wilson at Fast Company about some of the Wide Eye Team's recent creative and #branding work with Democrats. I’m a true believer, and so is everyone else at Wide Eye, that it’s sometimes the small, incremental, almost invisible creative decisions that make all the difference between success and failure in branding. To be cliché, the devil is in the details. Herein lies an important case study… Honored to have lead this design work with Elizabeth Bawol Grace Abe Sebastian Arredondo Alayna Citrin Lola Jacobs Kayla Holbeck Skyland Woll Nathan Dirks

Hello from Chicago! We’re thrilled to partner with the @demconvention team on the brand and website for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. We built a flexible, vibrant, and accessible identity that's setting the stage for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's historic campaign this week. Looking ahead, some of you may know we’re also involved with the Harris for President campaign brand—more to come on that collaboration soon... Project Team: Ben Ostrower, Curtis Gray, Elizabeth Bawol, Kayla Holbeck, Lola Jacobs, Nathan Dirks, Sebastian Arredondo, Skyland Woll #branding #design #ux #uxdesign #uidesign #UIUX #interactivedesign #sitedesign #webdesign #websites #wideeye #DNC2024 #demconvention
