These remarkable students have already begun their studies in our Associate of Applied Science in Computer Science, Advanced Welding, and Medical Clinical Assistant programs—all while continuing their high school education. Last night's Parent Night Info Hour was a great success! Supporting One of Our Own We’re reaching out to our Western Tech community with some difficult news. One of our welding students, Jorge Gutierrez, recently experienced a devastating fire that destroyed his apartment, taking with it all of his belongings, including his vehicle. Jorge is now facing the challenging task of rebuilding his life while caring for his son and his mother. In times like these, the strength of our community truly shines. From XTO Energy-ExxonMobil, where 9 of our alumni, including Kevin Granillo, shine every day, to Vanguard Truck Centers with over a dozen of our skilled diesel techs, and Bruckner's Truck & Equipment with 20+ grads like Brayden Jester—each one is a testament to the power of education and hard work. Our HVAC students are making strides with El Paso Water and our dedicated MCA students continue to partner with El Paso Community College to support the community during health fairs. Antron Brown and his NHRA ABMotorsports Top Fuel Team have kept the internship tradition alive and now have hired several of our graduates, like Engine Specialist Adrian. Duncan Aviation continues to open doors for our students as well. Special thanks to our amazing students, staff, and faculty at Western Tech who shared these moments with us. 🎓 Celebrating a Milestone: Line Worker Completion Ceremony⚡ On May 1st, we welcomed a group of brave individuals into the Line Worker certification program. Just three months later, they’ve reached a significant milestone, earning their certificates of completion! This achievement is a testament to the strong partnership between El Paso Electric Company, Workforce Solutions Borderplex, the El Paso Electric Charitable Foundation, and Western Tech. The skills these graduates have acquired make them invaluable both locally and beyond. For those selected to join El Paso Electric, the next goal is to complete a 4-year apprenticeship program. For others, Workforce Borderplex and Western Tech will be working closely to prepare them for interviews with various companies. This trade is vital, and we have no doubt that each graduate will make a lasting impact. Special thanks to Mr. Rivera (Line Worker Instructor) and the families and friends who have supported these students throughout their journey—you’ve been their foundation. Tornillo High School Program Info Night: We were thrilled to welcome back the 6th class of Tornillo HS students. Since 2018, our partnership with Tornillo ISD has been remarkable, continually providing valuable opportunities in Advanced Welding, Diesel Mechanics, Computer Science, and Medical Assistance. Their dedication to student success is inspiring! Rosy Vega-Barrio 2. DisruptHR El Paso 2.0: This dynamic event brought together over 150 guests and 14 keynote speakers to share insights on HR’s future, AI, and more. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers and attendees for shining a spotlight on these vital topics. 3. Line Worker Graduation: It was an honor to witness the pride of family members as 12 Line Worker students celebrated their graduation. This program, in collaboration with El Paso Electric Company and Workforce Solutions Borderplex, is a game-changer for these students and our community. 🎓 From Tornillo High to Western Tech: Maria Sanchez's inspiring journey Over the past 3 years, Maria has achieved remarkable milestones, starting with her dual credit education (as part of the Western Tech/Tornillo Isd HS program) and culminating in graduating from high school and earning an associate degree. She has also secured over $4,000 in scholarships to advance her career in Diesel Mechanics, specializing in Volvo Trucks Academy and Mack Trucks. 🚛 Supported by her father and mentored by Western Tech alumna Kassandra during her internship at Doggett Freightliner, Maria is shattering stereotypes in a male-dominated field. Under the visionary guidance of Dr. Marsha Lawler, Western Tech is committed to preparing our students for the shifts in automotive technology. While our current curriculum emphasizes gas and light-duty diesel engines, we're proactively integrating EV (Electric Vehicle) safety and operations to ensure our students are future-ready. Recently, Oscar De La Gala provided his students with a practical demonstration using a Chevy Bolt, highlighting the distinctions between EVs and Hybrids. As Dr. Lawler wisely noted, "Slowly but surely, EVs are coming onto the scene, and we're preparing our students for the future."
