  • At our Westchester Medical Center, we now offer a non-invasive, 45-minute treatment for arrhythmia patients who have exhausted other options. The procedure, cardiac radioablation, is performed only in centers with the most advanced technologies. It combines electrophysiology, cardiology, and radiation medicine to offer new hope to patients with limited therapy options. At WMCHealth, we are perpetually advancing our capabilities.

  • Our Maria Fareri Children's Hospital is the founding center of the Haplo SCD Consortium stem cell transplant clinical trial for sickle cell disease. The trial's goal: to find a more effective way to treat this life-threatening illness. The groundbreaking therapy involves harvesting cells from a tissue-mismatched family donor, re-engineering them through bone marrow stem cell enrichment, and reducing the immune cell components. Much of this work is being done in our Cellular and Tissue Engineering Laboratory. This breakthrough therapy is giving hope to many families, like Kemario's. A trial participant, Kemario, 6, is now thriving in first grade and no longer battling sickle cell disease crises. At WMCHealth, our commitment is to pioneer innovative treatments that transform lives and offer hope. • Complex conditions often require a multidisciplinary approach, and Hadley's story is a testament to the incredible impact of collaboration among pediatric specialists at our Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. Hadley, 1, was born with a congenital disorder that prevented her kidneys from developing properly. After her kidneys failed and were removed in December 2023, she endured months of dialysis treatments while her family awaited a deceased donor match. In a remarkable act of love, Hadley's Aunt Kayla donated her own kidney to the National Kidney Registry, which ultimately led to Hadley receiving her long-awaited kidney transplant from a living donor last month. Hadley, her mother Lindsay, Aunt Kayla, and their grateful family returned to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital to thank our amazing team of pediatric specialists who turned Hadley's life around. This heartwarming reunion is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our colleagues in providing complex care. • We are thrilled to recognize pediatric cardiologist Supriya Jain, MD, for her leadership as the Principal Investigator in the largest longitudinal multicenter study on COVID-19 vaccine-associated myocarditis in the young. This pivotal research, led by Dr. Jain and Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, involved 38 institutions from around the U.S. The study was published in Lancet's eClinical Medicine. The study found that while myocardial injury was common at initial presentation, 60% of those patients had persistence of myocardial scarring on follow-up. Despite these findings, the young patients have done well clinically so far, with no cardiac-related deaths or need for heart transplantation. Next steps include continuing to follow these patients to monitor long-term outcomes and potential risks. Join us in congratulating Dr. Jain and the entire research team for their remarkable achievements and ongoing work!
