We Mean Business Coalition
Non-profit Organizations
Working with the world’s most influential businesses to take action on climate change and call for ambitious policy.
About us
We Mean Business is a global nonprofit coalition working with the world’s most influential businesses to take action on climate change. #FossilToClean Together we catalyze business leadership to drive policy ambition and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. All countries and all businesses can seize the opportunity and go all in to halve emissions by 2030. Together we can create an inclusive net zero economy, build resilient communities and limit global heating to 1.5°C. The low-carbon transition is underway and forward-looking businesses are harnessing climate action as a driver of innovation, competitiveness, risk management and growth. We are mobilizing businesses to set ambitious targets and equipping them to seize the opportunities of the low-carbon transition. Hundreds of businesses have helped kick-start this transition by setting science-based emissions reduction targets and taking action to deliver against those targets by committing to transition to 100% renewable power. But it is not happening fast enough. The necessary speed and scale of the transition requires all companies and sectors to engage proactively to reduce emissions at the rate required to avoid dangerous climate change. Which is why our coalition is working together to catalyze further, faster corporate climate action. The coalition brings together seven international nonprofit organizations: BSR, CDP, Ceres, The B Team, The Climate Group, The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders Group, WBCSD

🤝 We Mean Business Coalition was delighted to join CEBDS and WBCSD at #ClimateWeekNYC for the launch of the Call to Action from the Brazilian Business Sector for an Ambitious and Implementable NDC. This country-level call to action was presented to Ana Toni, National Secretary for Climate Change of Brazil, and Ambassador André Aranha Corrêa do Lago. It builds on our recently-released Business Call to Action for Ambitious and Investible NDCs (https://lnkd.in/gf9A3Ace) which calls on governments—led by the G20—to make sure that their new national climate plans are both ambitious and investible. The letter, covered by UOL, ISTOÉ, and Um Só Planeta, was signed by 55 leading companies operating in Brazil including ACCIONA, Nestlé, Schneider Electric, and Unilever. It advocates for clear implementation policies that drive investment and allow the broad participation of the private sector. It also calls on companies to step up their own efforts with bold transition plans – and by setting clear targets and investing in the future to achieve ambitious climate and nature goals. Speaking at the launch, Marina Freitas Grossi, President of CEBDS, said: “As current president of the #G20 and host of #COP30, Brazil has a key role to lead global climate ambition efforts. We need to act now to structure policies such as the Ecological Transformation Plan, the Climate Plan, the Regulated Carbon Market and the National Energy Transition Policy, ensuring that they are aligned with the next NDC”. 🏷️ Conselho Empresarial Brasileiro para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Cebds), WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Karl Vella, Jennie Dodson, Viviane Romeiro, and Peter Bakker. #NDCs

At #ClimateWeekNYC, our CEO, María Mendiluce, launched the Women Leading on Climate network alongside Catherine McKenna, Ana Toni, and Jennifer Morgan. When it comes to climate change, women are: ➡️ 2.5x more likely to ask their governments to be bolder ➡️ 60% more likely to use their voices for good ➡️ 2x as likely to engage civically. There is mounting research that indicates female-style leadership traits can support longer-term, multi-dimensional global problems such as the climate and nature crises. A study into the effect of women's leadership on carbon disclosure by the top 100 global energy leaders found that the number of women on the boards of the top global energy leaders is increasing in line with the level of carbon disclosure. Women Leading on Climate’s initial focus will be to push for greater country ambition and action in clear and investable country climate plans by early 2025, including the tripling of renewable energy and doubling of energy efficiency, alongside the phase-out of #fossilfuels. 👇 Swipe through the quotes below to hear from leading women from the worlds of government, civil society and business including Teresa Ribera, EU Commissioner-designate for a clean, just and competitive transition, Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation and Kyung-Ah Park, Head of ESG Investment Management and Managing Director, Sustainability, Temasek on why this network is so important. 🔗 Find out more about the network: https://lnkd.in/dSKBjMRt

📣 Fifty companies today called on the EU to maintain its 2035 zero-emissions target for cars and vans. Signatories of the Industry for 2035 declaration argue that the target is ‘feasible and necessary’ and call on leaders to focus not on reopening it but on implementing what was agreed. With transport set to account for over half of Europe’s GHG emissions by 2030, they say the policy – alongside others adopted under the European Green Deal - gives Europe a fighting chance of curbing catastrophic climate change. The target also provides business with the ‘clear direction’ they need to help deliver the transformation required, and ‘much needed investment certainty on the future of the automotive industry in Europe’. As signatory, Jim Rowan of Volvo Cars, said: “Electrification is the single biggest action our industry can take to cut its carbon footprint... The 2035 target is crucial to align all stakeholders on this journey and ensure European competitiveness.” Other executives and CEOs who support the declaration include Kenny Kristensen of A.P. Moller - Maersk, Rebecca Tinucci of Uber, Himanshu Raj of IKEA, and Tim Albertsen of Europe’s largest leasing company, Ayvens, alongside companies such as Iberdrola and Tesco. We’re delighted to see many companies from our #FossilToClean campaign on the list! Industry for 2035 was supported by Transport & Environment (T&E) and by EV100, an initiative of our Coalition partner Climate Group.
