Mid-block, mid-height, big charm. Hotel Seattle, originally the Continental Hotel, was built in 1926 and remains as one of eight hotels continuously operating in downtown Seattle since the early 20th century. Weinstein A+U assisted the new owners in securing approval from the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board and the architectural reviewers at the National Parks Service to have this project listed as a local and national landmark which will be rehabilitated into a boutique hotel, serving as an exemplar for downtown revitalization. Weinstein A+U aimed to preserve as much of the original character and design of the building as possible, while effectively meeting the demands of contemporary hotel operations. As the first step in the building’s exterior rehabilitation, façade restoration work has begun, revealing the original terra cotta cladding along Seneca Street. A new central steel marquee with flanking metal-clad recessed entrances will provide a celebrated juxtaposition of old and new. Many thanks to University of Washington Libraries, Special Collections, SEA2558 for the historic photo and Brent Loe Photography for the current photo. We're taking advantage of these longer summer days to help out at #FoodLifeline   Our team helped sort and repack over 10,000lbs of mandarin oranges, all going to families in Western Washington. 🍊 Shout out to The Walsh Group - Walsh Construction & Archer Western who we bumped into. You never know who you'll meet at the warehouse!   See how you and others can support Food Lifeline's mission to end hunger at www.foodlifeline.org

We pause today, Juneteenth, to commemorate African American freedom and to honor the positive impact of African American culture and achievement. As we reflect on this important moment in history, we re-commit to the ongoing work of designing equitable spaces for all. Our Midtown Square project in the heart of the Central District, Seattle’s historically black neighborhood, showcases and promotes local black artists (see each image) and black-owned businesses such as ARTE NOIR and Jerk Shack Seattle. 📸 Rafael Soldi

Soaking up the sun in a few of our favorite decks and courtyards in our fire station projects! “When do firefighters have time to relax?” you might ask. In between calls to aid their community, it is important that firefighters can decompress and recharge, so they are continually ready to attend to the next call.    Outdoor spaces provide a moment of respite and help firefighters maintain their mental health as they navigate the psychological demands of their jobs. We have designed these spaces to provide views out from the residential areas of the station, yet to also be concealed from public view, allowing the firefighters to relax and get fresh air in privacy. When the design of a fire station fosters the well-being of firefighters, it results in safer and healthier firefighters who are better equipped to serve their communities. Spaces for gathering, relaxing, and exercising together in the station are critical in promoting this positive culture.   Here are a few of our favorite community-building spaces within our recent fire station projects: Tukwila Fire Station 51, Seattle Fire Station 6, and Tukwila Fire Station 52   Photos: Lara Swimmer

A glimpse into our office’s construction site tour of the multifamily residential project at 23 N Broadway in Tacoma.   23 N Broadway is a new 53-unit apartment building located in Tacoma’s historic Stadium District. Generously sized windows, recessed decks, and Juliet balconies provide units with fantastic daylight, fresh air, and views of Commencement Bay, Vashon Island, or Mt Rainier. This project is scheduled for completion this summer. Client: Mayer Built Homes General Contractor: @TheRushCompanies Photos: @runafterthesun
