The humanitarian crisis in Kassala and Gedaref states in Sudan has worsened, with over 818,000 internally displaced persons and an ongoing cholera outbreak claiming 56 lives. Alight, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has set up 4 emergency mobile clinics 🚑 in Gedaref and supports 5 primary health care centers 🏥in Kassala. We’re reaching over 60,000 people with essential health and nutrition services, but the need is overwhelming. Sudan is now facing a critical displacement crisis. The recent collapse of Arba'at dam in Red Sea State and ongoing heavy rains have displaced over 136,000 people across 14 states, with many already displaced due to conflict. Living in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement in Uganda is challenging, but for the blind residents, uneven ground and lack of accessibility make mobility difficult. Poli Poli, an 18-year-old blind man, relies on a young boy he calls "Driver" to guide him. Through #Alight365, we provided Poli Poli and nine others with folding white canes, which brought them newfound independence. 🦯✨ Additionally, to bring joy to their days, we supplied musical instruments, creating opportunities for the blind community to make music together.
