At Waymo, our mission is to be the world’s most trusted driver. We’re excited to launch our expanded network and operations partnership with Uber in Austin and Atlanta to bring the benefits of fully autonomous driving to more riders. It’s been great to hear the positive feedback from our Waymo One riders so far, and we look forward to bringing the comfort, convenience, and safety of the Waymo Driver to these cities in partnership with Uber. As we scale a new way forward in mobility, we are focused on making roads safer, improving independence, and increasing access to mobility options. At the same time, we’re creating an ecosystem of autonomous vehicle (AV) industry partners - both established and new - who are helping make fully autonomous driving technology a reality for even more people. They include network and operations partners like Uber; integration partners like Magna; charging infrastructure partners; fleet maintenance partners; fully-electric automotive partners like Jaguar Land Rover; research partners like SwissRe; and community partners like Lighthouse for the Blind, BikeLA, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. We’re excited to continue to build this AV partnership ecosystem to support our growing Waymo One service, increase adoption of the Waymo Driver, and redefine mobility for riders. With 15 years of experience in our rearview, we’re entering an exciting commercial growth phase for Waymo. We’re incredibly proud to serve +100K rides each week to people across San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles, and have served over 2 million paid fully autonomous rides to date. We’re just getting started, and we can’t wait for what’s to come. https://lnkd.in/gpFhbxXK

🤝✨ Building Our Mentor Community! Following a week of Mentor orientations in anticipation of the arrival of our 2024 Emerging Leaders, we capped off this week with Mentor networking events in Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area. These events provided the perfect platform to connect, collaborate, and build a strong support network across program roles. Mentors identified others working with each EL, asked questions of experienced mentors, and connected with the IIE team. A great start to fostering meaningful connections for the journey ahead! “What brought you to this program?” “What are you excited about?” “What’s still a bit of a mystery?” These were just some of the questions floating around last night and we were heartened to see our veteran Mentors stepping up to lead the way. We’re off to an awesome start, and we can’t wait to see what’s next! 🚀🎉 Special thanks to our long-time partner Waymo for hosting us in the Bay Area, with remarks from Mentor, Waymo liaison, and former IIE teammate, Samera Edwards and Women@Waymo ERG Lead, Monika Sharma. #WomenEmpowerWomen #StrongerTogether #TWMentors #techwomen24

Transparency and accountability are essential to achieving Waymo’s mission to be the world’s most trusted driver. So today, we’re excited to launch a new data hub that demonstrates how the Waymo Driver is making roads safer, backed by our driving data. The new data hub compares the Waymo Driver’s crash rates to humans’ in the cities where we operate. It leverages best practices in safety impact analysis, invites researchers to replicate the results, and will be regularly updated. As we prepare to surpass 100,000 trips at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport this week, we’re proud to announce that all riders can now get 24/7 pickups and dropoffs directly at the terminal curbside. This unlocks even more convenience for travelers to get safely to and from the world’s first airport to allow autonomous rides, and is thanks to the close collaboration with airport officials and the City of Phoenix.

Congratulations to Tilia Gode, Waymo's Head of Risk and Insurance, for being included in Silicon Valley Business Journal's 40 Under 40! Tilia is one of the first actuaries, globally, to specifically focus on AVs, and has helped shape how the field approaches both measurement of risk and how the current insurance industry plays into the burgeoning AV sector. We're so grateful for her contributions at Waymo and toward the sector at large.  https://lnkd.in/dsdsS3un

Aligning on best practices for evaluating the safety performance of autonomous vehicles is crucial. Today, we are proud to share a significant milestone toward this goal through a newly published paper. Written by experts across academia, insurance, and industry with Waymo as a primary contributor, the paper presents a checklist for retrospective automated vehicle evaluation (RAVE). It’s a set of 15 specific recommendations for researchers on how to compare AV crash rates to human benchmarks. At Waymo, we spent years refining the best practices for crash rate analysis. The RAVE checklist is an industry-wide elaboration that builds off of the collective experience across organizations, including our own research, and we’re excited to be able to share it with the broader community and help promote good scientific practices. https://lnkd.in/g-ZR3hhr
