Waymo One is now providing over 150,000 paid trips and driving over 1 million fully autonomous miles every week. The future is here, it’s growing, and it’s taking riders safely to their destinations every day.

Waymo is teaming up with CUNY Bronx Community College, The City College of New York, and the University Transportation Research Center to bring the future of automotive engineering to the classroom! Students at BCC's Automotive Technology Program will soon be equipped with the skills needed to become expert technicians in the AV field.

Safety and transparency are incredibly important to our mission of making roads safer. After launching the Waymo Safety Hub last month, we’re introducing several updates to our data and methods. Our crash rate analysis is now available for the 25M miles of fully autonomous driving through July 2024, using the latest NHTSA SGO data release. Our methodology continues to evolve too - now including a new adjustment methodology for generating the benchmarks, which accounts for differences in geographic distribution of driving within a city between the Waymo fleet and the human population. Thank you to Waymo for hosting an incredible field trip for our Mission High School class! 🚗 Our students had the unique opportunity to dive into the world of autonomous vehicles (AVs) and witness firsthand how technology is reshaping the future of transportation. From learning about Waymo's origins as a Google self-driving project in 2009 to its evolution as an industry leader today, the students were truly inspired. The field trip began with an engaging talk from Rachel Kamen, who shared both her personal journey and the history of Waymo. She emphasized the vital role of safety in transportation, highlighting the dangers of human error behind the wheel and how autonomous vehicles can significantly reduce these risks. Her message resonated with our students, sparking meaningful discussions about how AV technology could shape a safer future for everyone on the road. The highlight of the trip? A ride in a Waymo! Our students were thrilled to experience the smooth and cautious ride for themselves. Many commented on how the ride made them realize just how unpredictable and unsafe traditional driving can be. The Waymo vehicle’s ability to drive slowly and smoothly really impressed the group, with several students expressing how much they enjoyed it and would love to do it again. This field trip not only opened our students' eyes to the future of autonomous technology but also ignited their curiosity about the tech industry's potential to solve real-world challenges. We're grateful to companies like Waymo and the Waymo Community for investing in education and offering hands-on learning experiences that show our students how they can be part of the next wave of technological innovation.
