During the Wisconsin Newspaper Association’s 2023 Better Newspaper Awards ceremony on Friday, Waukesha Freeman Newspaper and its sister papers, Oconomowoc Enterprise , Washington County Daily News and Ozaukee County News Graphic, were awarded 29 total awards. We are hiring! Assistant Sports Editor: The Waukesha Freeman, a publication of Conley Media, is seeking a full-time Assistant Sports Editor. Covering prep sports in Waukesha County is the primary focus of the position. Responsibilities include writing sports stories, copyediting stories, taking photos and video, designing pages, and posting website/social media updates. We are looking for an energetic, organized individual with solid writing fundamentals, page design skills, the ability to cultivate sources and a desire to be part of the community. The Assistant Sports Editor works night hours. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, excellent written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of AP style, experience with QuarkXPress or InDesign, strong social media skills and prior sports experience at a newspaper. Waukesha County is a tremendous community for prep sports. It is also a great place to live and work. Milwaukee and all of its attractions are nearby, and Madison is about an hour away.
