What could you do with a <$10k grant to support a community organization? Last year, Transform Grant recipient Darsh Singhania ’25 and the student group HeartfortheUnhoused worked with Students in Transition (SIT), a group that supports St. Louis Public Schools, and the WashU Office of Sustainability on “Project EmpowerED: SLPS Homeless Youth Support Project.” They worked to utilize the resources and service of the WashU student body to give back to the community via projects like assembling college readiness and hygiene kits, loading and transporting donations, and staffing positions at the SIT office. The Transform Grant, one of four grant categories through the St. Louis Impact Fund, is designed to support robust partnerships between WashU students and community organizations by providing up to $10,000 in project support aimed at advancing regional priorities. ➡️ Curious to learn more? Join WashU Law and the Gephardt Institute on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for a conversation on "Terrorism, Torture, and the Long Legal Shadow of 9/11" with investigative journalist and critically acclaimed author Michael Isikoff AB ’74. The conversation will explore the profound legal missteps that occurred in the aftermath of 9/11, detailing both the failure to hold the perpetrators accountable and the resurgence of ISIS following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. This “lesson learned” discussion will also tackle the lingering, unresolved questions surrounding the alleged Saudi involvement in the 9/11 attack and the reactions on the part of the victims’ families to those allegations. St. Louis neighborhood leaders from South Grand, Cherokee Street, The Ville, the Old North neighborhood, and Cahokia Mounds met with St. Louis Fellows from Washington University in St. Louis over the summer to help them learn more about the people, culture, opportunities, and challenges of their communities. These visits, also known as Engage STL Day immersion trips, are just one way that St. Louis Fellows contribute to the positive progress of our region. Connecting Over Conversation 🍽️: WashU's Longest Table returns to Brookings Quad on Sept. 5, bringing students, faculty, and staff together for a meaningful dinner and guided discussion on the upcoming election.

St. Louis ranked in the top 10 American metropolitan areas for job growth, according to a recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Cortex Innovation District, a nonprofit dedicated to elevating the St. Louis economy, has certainly played a role in raising the region's rank. Two WashU St. Louis Fellows, Harlem Taylor '27 and Daniel Niu '26, supported the organization over the summer as it continued its mission of accelerating inclusive economic growth in St. Louis.
