Way to go, Kaustubh Deshmukh!
Congratulations to Kaustubh Deshmukh! He received third place for his presentation at the International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing. 🎉 Kaustubh is a Ph.D. student in Virginia Tech Mechanical Engineering, and is advised by #VTISE associate professor Prahalada Rao. His presentation titled "Unravelling the Effect of Part Thermal History on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Laser Powder Bed Fusion of SS316L" is related to his previously published research, which is available at https://lnkd.in/ej8swTTg

It's Nuclear Science Week! Virginia Tech has many strengths in this area, and ME is proud that the nuclear engineering program is part of our team. One of the most interesting technologies used by students and researchers is the molten salt loop, which uses salt's heat-retaining properties as an energy source. Amanda Leong and Jinsuo Zhang work with students and colleagues in this state-of-the-art facility. #nuclearscienceweek https://lnkd.in/ejmQswdb

Excited to see our new work on octopus-inspired adhesion written up in MIT Technology Review. We can now can pick up, hold, and release a wide range of challenging underwater objects, including soft and rigid materials that are flat, rough, and even curved (think rocks, shells, and soft gel beads)!
This octopus-inspired adhesive can stick to just about anything

The insulin pump of the future could be much more user-friendly, thanks to the work of Anne Staples, and her collaborators Leanna House and Rafael Davalos. This work, recognizing Staples as a trailblazer with funding from the National Institutes of Health, brings together several of Staples' projects into one. https://lnkd.in/eW47jEVn
