  • Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t convince Mother Nature to lower the temperature for tomorrow’s Concert on the Square. After discussions with The Blooze Brothers and in the best interest of all attending, we’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule tomorrow’s performance to next Tuesday, September 3rd due to the high temperatures forecasted for tomorrow. Our donation drive will also be moved to next week. Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you on September 3rd!

We are busy planning for the Incubator Shops project! The shops, slated to open in downtown Huntley in late 2025, will provide small businesses and entrepreneurs with an opportunity to establish a physical storefront in a retail setting. The primary goal is to provide a platform that supports local business owners, artists and makers and acts as a catalyst to assist them on the path to opening a brick-and-mortar shop in Huntley while providing additional retail shopping options for residents and visitors to Huntley. To assist with the cost of establishing the incubator shops, the Village secured a Small Business Administration Grant in the amount of $974,843 via a Community Project appropriation through the US Congressional office of Representative Lauren Underwood. After reviewing various sites in the downtown area, the Village-owned property at 11879 Main Street (commonly referred to as the Hackett House) has been selected as the preferred site. The building and land at the corner of Route 47 and Main Street is visible by vehicular travelers and is also walkable to the numerous downtown amenities, including 186 parking spaces located within a short walk to the property. The proximity to downtown businesses is considered a key benefit, with the expectation that the existing businesses and restaurants will benefit from the increased foot traffic associated with the new shopping district and that the newly created shopping area will gain the attention of downtown visitors. The building is currently occupied by Naturally McHenry County, with the current lease term ending in March 2025. The Spring conclusion of the lease agreement coordinates well with the timing of the next steps of shop planning and construction. We look forward to sharing more information as it becomes available – including details on how to apply to be a shop operator. • August is National Water Quality Month. Stormwater runoff flowing across impermeable ground can quickly become polluted by substances it encounters. This graphic from the Clean Water Education Partnership shows 6 pollutants that stormwater often carries directly into bodies of water. You can help combat stormwater in our area by protecting against these pollutants and providing places where flowing water can be absorbed into the ground. For more information, please visit the Clean Water Education Partnership at www.nc-cleanwater.com
