🐷 The phenomenon known as #pigbutchering is a sophisticated evolution of traditional romance scams, leveraging dating apps and social media. In a classic #romancescam, the fraudster builds a relationship with their target over time, gaining their trust before requesting money for an urgent need—like emergency surgery or a crisis situation. Pig butchering takes this trust-building aspect and combines it with the lure of a too-good-to-miss investment opportunity, often in #cryptocurrency. The term "pig butchering" refers to the metaphor of fattening a pig before slaughtering it. While no animals are harmed, the impact on human victims can be devastating. In the latest #VeriffVoices podcast, Chief Fraud Fighter Ronnie Tokazowski exposes this scam technique and its potentially dire consequences. 🎙 Tune in wherever you get your podcasts.

⚠ AI’S IMPACT ON ELECTION SEASON ⚠ Kaarel Kotkas, Founder & CEO at Veriff, recently shared his thoughts with Forbes Technology Council on combating #deepfakes and protecting #voter trust. Here are👇 8 steps to begin combating these fraud attacks:👇 1️⃣ Verify information sources and data cross-checking. Trust information only from reputable and reliable sources. Ideally, the same information should be available across various sites. 2️⃣ Get information from verified sources only. For example, you should only trust verified users of #socialmedia platforms. 3️⃣ Use fact-checking websites. There are several trusted sites that allow you to verify claims, such as PolitiFact, AFP Fact Check, Reuters Fact Check, Snopes.com, and FactCheck.org. 4️⃣ Use critical thinking. In audio or video clips, look for visual anomalies such as unnatural movements, strange lighting, blurriness, asymmetric/irregular facial features, or mismatched lip-syncing. 5️⃣ When on a video call, have the person at the other end get up and move around. Today, most deepfake technologies will glitch during these kinds of movements. 6️⃣ Utilize #deepfakedetection tools. Deepware Scanner and InVID are reliable and popular ones. 7️⃣ Use #AI tools to generate your own videos and images. This will help you understand what AI-generated content looks like. 8️⃣ Use #electoral registers to verify campaigner identities. Trust, verification, and being source-critical will be key to maintaining the integrity and protecting the principles of democracy this election season. There's no such thing as bad publicity...👀 Reviews from disgruntled fraudsters are a small price to pay for making the internet a safer place. In today’s digital world, online reviews hold significant weight. People often turn to platforms like Trustpilot to gauge a company's credibility. Naturally, seeing negative reviews might raise some concerns. However, when it comes to identity verification companies like Veriff, these negative reviews can actually signal something positive. ⭐ When you see negative reviews from people who claim they were unable to get verified, it's important to consider that some of these users may not have had genuine intentions. ⭐ If fraudsters are leaving negative reviews because they can't get through Veriff's verification process, it indicates that Veriff is prioritizing security, which ultimately protects both companies and their customers. ⭐ Many of the negative comments could be from individuals who didn't meet the verification criteria for valid reasons. In these cases, the complaints should be seen as a reflection of Veriff's dedication to maintaining high standards, rather than as a negative mark on its reputation. #reviews #testimonials #fraudprevention #identityverification #safeguarding

💡 Something a little different today...Berit Vals, Director of People Operations, Rewards & DEIB at Veriff, recently joined Joosep Põllumäe and Kaarel Kook for an 'IT hour' podcast to discuss hiring practices within the IT sector. They spoke about key skills and expectations for those entering the tech industry, and Berit shared some key takeaways: 👉 Basic skills are non-negotiable: companies aren’t looking to teach coding or software basics from scratch. A solid foundation is crucial. 👉 Expectations are personal: while many companies invest in cool office spaces, every employee has unique needs—whether it’s salary, sports benefits, flexible working conditions, or something else. 👉 IT is a broad field: not all roles require a specific IT degree. Strong management skills or a deep industry understanding can be just as valuable. If this resonates with you, reach out—your next role might just be with Veriff! #ITcareers #techindustry #employeeexpectations #employeebenefits #womenintech #careerdevelopment #hiring
