About us

VegTech™ Invest is an investment management company that advises a Plant-based Innovation ETF. It also produces a Plant-based Innovation & Alternative Proteins index as an industry benchmark. VegTech Invest invests in public companies that are actively innovating with plants and plant-derived ingredients and that produce primary products that are animal-free. We believe these companies positively impact climate change, planetary health and sustainability, human health, and animal health. We also believe that we are on the cusp of a long-term secular trend that will result in the disrupting of the global food and materials supply chain for a more efficient, climate friendly and sustainable. • How safe do Americans think the food system is? Not very. And apparently, both sides of Congress don’t either. It is no wonder. - Consumer Reports found that 31% of ground chicken samples leave the animal factory with Salmonella, - Studies have found that almost 99% have fecal matter and - Processed meats, a sector created by the meat industry of hot dogs, deli slices, sausages and bacon are Class 1 Carcinogens according to the World Health Organization. In a recent hearing on food safety entitled, “What Is the FDA Doing to Reduce the Diabetes and Obesity Epidemics in America and Take on the Greed of the Food and Beverage Industry?” both sides attacked the FDA for doing little to inform consumers about health risks… even though historically blocked the FDA from doing this. Food systems transformation is front and center of the media and the public eye again…and a massive shift is about to unfold. • We don’t know what is more upsetting: - that 31% of the ground chicken that leaves the plants for consumer purchase as salmonella or - that, according to the USDA, an acceptable level of salmonella in ground chicken is 25%. 25%! What role can policymakers, businesses, and consumers play in reshaping the future of food? Invest in the companies innovating for a healthy and secure food system, like we have been doing at VegTech Invest for the last 3 years. Reach out to learn more. As bi-partisan lawmakers took the FDA to task for not clearly communicating the damaging impacts of burgers and chips and soda, we see that the USDA isn’t really any better. And food safety concerns don’t stop at processed and contaminated foods. 2024 was the year that Bird Flu - again chicken concerns! - jumped from a bird to a cow to a human, leaving us all wondering about the next pandemic…both a health and economic concern. As consumers and businesses alike demand healthier, sustainable options, the market for minimally processed and diversified proteins continues to expand, such as 🌱 plant-based, ⏰ fermented, 🍄 and mycelium. Investing in companies innovating in this space, like we do at VegTech Invest, helps to not only meet consumer demand but also drives meaningful health and sustainability outcomes. It’s time to invest in disrupting the food system for better, more diversified, healthier options. • Processed foods: Bacon, hot dogs, hamburgers, cookies, chips and soda are jeopardizing public health. 🍔🥤 What role can policymakers, businesses, and consumers play in reshaping the future of food? Invest in the companies innovating for a healthy and secure food system, like we do at VegTech Invest. Reach out to learn more. We have been talking about this for 3 years (we turn 3 this month!)...and it is finally in the news. In a recent Senate hearing, FDA officials faced tough questions about their oversight of processed foods and the impact of highly processed diets on the nation’s health from senators on both sides of the aisle. Bi-partisan lawmakers raised concerns about rising rates of diet-related diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions. Key points from the discussion include: 🍔 “Processed foods make up nearly 60% of the American diet,” according to recent studies. 🍪 High levels of added sugars, sodium, and saturated fats in processed products are linked to escalating healthcare costs and declining public health. 💡 Senators called for “stronger regulations and clearer labeling”, ensuring consumers are fully informed about what they eat. Will this be enough given the addictive nature of these foods? The debate underscores the urgent need for food systems transformation. As consumers and businesses alike demand healthier, sustainable options, the market for minimally processed and diversified proteins continues to expand, such as 🌱 plant-based, ⏰ fermented, 🍄 and mycelium. Investing in companies innovating in this space helps to not only meet consumer demand but also drives meaningful health and sustainability outcomes. It’s time to invest in disrupting the food system for better, more diversified, healthier options.
