About us
UDOT’s vision is as simple and straightforward as our name. We aim to Keep Utah Moving. That includes everything from improving our roads and traffic lights to providing alternate means of getting from A to B, like bike lanes and public transit. We want to make sure that whatever is being moved, freight and cargo or the people in a vehicle, arrives safe and promptly. It isn’t easy, but Keeping Utah Moving is what keeps UDOT going.

Don't forget, some of the most impactful service starts in our own communities. 🤝 Last week the Trails and Transit Division team took on a mile of the Porter Rockwell Trail as part of the Governor’s month of service. They clipped overgrown vegetation, picked-up trash, swept, and removed some pesky goatheads. In total, the team collected five bags of trash. To top the morning off they took the Utah Transit Authority TRAX Blue line back to the Expo center, making their service completely powered by bike, walking, and transit. 💪 Thank you Trails and Transit Division for your part in keeping our trails accessible and enjoyable for everyone. #TeamUDOT #OneUtah

If you need some good news this week, we have a story for you. 👇 This is Lucky, the kitten rescued from I-15, with her new family. Last week on our Facebook page, we shared the story of Lucky, the kitten who found herself in a dangerous spot on the inside shoulder of I-15 in Salt Lake County. When our bridge repair crew noticed her, they called in UHP to slow down traffic, allowing them to safely rescue her from the busy freeway. One of the crew members couldn't resist taking Lucky home and making her a part of his family. We stopped by the Gonzales’ house to see how Lucky is faring and she’s definitely thriving. Now, she spends her days playing with three kiddos, a dog, and even a turtle. It’s safe to say Lucky’s living up to her name. In today’s world, it’s rare for employees to stay with one organization for a decade, let alone four. But at UDOT, we’re fortunate to have hundreds of team members who have committed 20, 30, and even 40 years to building a better Utah. Recently we honored their incredible dedication with a special luncheon at the Calvin L. Rampton Complex in Taylorsville, celebrating those who have served with UDOT for 25 years or more. Their hard work, passion, and loyalty have created a lasting impact on our state, and we couldn’t be more grateful. To everyone who has dedicated decades to improving Utah: thank you. #TeamUDOT #Utah

We're always looking for innovative ways to make Utah’s roads safer. That’s why we’re among the first states in the U.S. to roll out LiDAR technology at intersections. LiDAR uses eye-safe laser beams to recreate a 3D view of an entire intersection, capturing every vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist movement. This technology allows our engineers to spot “near misses,” red light runs, track pedestrian pathways, and more—helping us implement safety improvements like longer crosswalk times and adjusting signal timings. Big things coming from our Traffic Signals Operations Engineer Mark Taylor and his team. And we're just getting started. Say goodbye (hello) to the old (new) Bangerter. 👋 Curious about all that concrete piled up along Bangerter? It’s part of a major recycling effort! Our crews are crushing 15,000 cubic yards of old pavement—enough to fill two Goodyear Blimps—and repurposing it for the new interchange. This is all part of the work to remove stoplights and convert Bangerter intersections into freeway-style interchanges to increase safety and help keep traffic moving in the ever-growing west side of the Salt Lake Valley. #transportation #TeamUDOT #concrete

This week, we celebrated breaking ground on the long-awaited $152 million Energy Corridor project in Montezuma Creek alongside Lt. Gov. Diedre Henderson and Navajo Nation leaders. Nearly 20 years in the making, this exciting project includes 54 miles of new pavement along SR-162 and SR-262, a new McElmo bridge, and a roundabout at Montezuma Creek. We’re also enhancing safety by widening shoulders, adding rumble strips, and upgrading guardrails. This work will ensure safer, smoother, and more convenient travel for local residents, and visitors to Bears Ears, Four Corners, and Hovenweep National Monuments. A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who made this milestone possible! #TeamUDOT #infrastructure #Utah

Just when you thought snowplow season was over, Mother Nature decided to hail a little surprise. 🌨️ We try to be prepared for all types of weather by continuously clearing the drains and maintaining the roads, but when it comes down this quickly, and ferociously, it's difficult to contain. This week our crews jumped into action around the state to fix drains, clear debris, and yes, snowplow in August. 😀 Are you interested in a job where no two days are the same? We're hiring.
