About us
For 140 years The University of Texas System has improved the lives of Texans and people all over the world through education, research and health care. The University of Texas System reposted this
Just as anyone stepping foot on the Forty Acres, I remember seeing the UT Tower for my first time and feeling like I was home. The Tower is a beacon for the University and an integral part of what we stand for at The University of Texas at Austin. Since its construction in 1937, it has stood as a symbol of our history, culture and bold vision. And now, thanks to the Chairman Kevin Eltife and the The University of Texas System Board of Regents, it is time to return it to its glory, to restore, revitalize and reimagine it. I am proud to share that the initial exterior restoration will begin in November and the building will remain in operation through the duration of construction. Today, we celebrated the investiture of Dr. Julie V. Philley as the president of the University of Texas at Tyler. Dr. Philley’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of education. Sen. Bryan Hughes expressed the community’s pride in Dr. Philley, saying the region and state fully support and stand behind Dr. Philley. Dr. Philley echoed this sentiment, emphasizing: “What will always stand is the University of Texas at Tyler — grounded in the success of others, committed to the generations ahead.” UT System Chancellor JB Milliken led the formal investiture, presenting Dr. Philley with the Presidential Medallion, symbolizing her authority and responsibility as the university's sixth president. UT Regent Chair Kevin Eltife highlighted Dr. Philley’s leadership and shared: “We celebrate not only an extraordinary leader, but also our shared commitment to UT Tyler...” Here’s to the best years ahead! #TalonsUp
