Douglas Peterson, thank you so much for your excellent leadership of the U.S.-Japan Business Council as Board Chair over the past three years! We are sad to see you go, and so excited for what the future holds for you. Congratulations!
It has been the highlight and privilege of my career to lead S&P Global over the last 11 years. I want to share that I plan to retire as CEO in November of this year, at which time I’ll move into an advisory role at the Company. At S&P Global, we have evolved from a diversified publishing holding company to a focused, markets-oriented information services company. I have tremendous pride in what we accomplished, but I also know there is so much more yet to come. To that end, I hope you’ll join me in congratulating Martina Cheung, S&P Global’s current President of S&P Global Ratings, who will succeed me as our next President and CEO. We have worked closely together as Martina has held multiple leadership roles at the Company. Importantly, Martina is truly an exceptional leader who is thoughtful and passionate in all that she does. I am excited as ever for what the future holds at S&P Global. You can read more in our announcement here: S&P Global Announces Leadership Succession - S&P Global (spglobal.com). Please join me in congratulating Martina!

On Wednesday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, #Keidanren, and the Federation of Korean Industries (#FKI), signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen trilateral private sector collaboration. The three organizations further co-hosted the U.S.-Japan-Korea Business Dialogue, a trilateral business discussion - held on the margins of the Trilateral Commerce and Industry Ministerial Meeting. U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry SAITO Ken, and Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy AHN Dukgeun delivered opening remarks. Afterwards, business leaders from the three countries, including U.S.-Japan Business Council and U.S.-Korea Business Council members, held a private, off-the-record discussion on key economic issues in the trilateral relationship. Why It Matters: This newly launched private sector platform will enable the three business communities to collaborate more closely on economy and technology issues, consistent with the business priorities of the U.S., #Japan, and #Korea. “These activities will institutionalize trilateral private sector dialogue, ensuring the private sector has a voice in trilateral policy decisions,” said Charles Freeman, the Chamber’s Senior Vice President for Asia. On June 6, we held our annual Joint Staff Meeting in Tokyo where we met with our Japanese counterparts to set the agenda for this year's U.S.-Japan Business Conference. Featured speakers included former Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki and Noah Sneider of the The Economist. We also held a fantastic symposium on the #USJapanTourismYear that afternoon. Cameron Deptula from the Office of Hawaii Governor Josh Green gave the U.S. keynote on Japanese tourism to #Hawaii. We also held two panels, on Inclusive Tourism and Innovations in Mobility. We were delighted to have Alan Turley from the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo Japan kick off the symposium with remarks on the origins of the Tourism Year. Jiro Kawakami, CFA of MGM Resorts International then moderated the Inclusive Tourism panel featuring Tomohiro Oya of Airbnb, Karl Hudson from Marriott International, Kenichi Kawamoto from the Japan Association for the 2025 World Expo, and Kozo Takaoka from Kita Management. Taira Iwasaki of Japan Airlines moderated the second panel on Innovations in Mobility which featured Will Shaffer from Boeing, Masato Webb from Delta, Patrick McLeod from Dow Japan, Tomohiro Fukuzawa of SkyDrive, and Takashi Shimizu from Docomo Bike Share.

The U.S. and Japan are hotbeds for advanced materials innovation, and we are proud to see Chuck Mattera and Coherent Corp.'s leadership in this space! Coherent's industry-leading lasers are an essential tool to create the advanced materials we need to foster a cleaner, brighter future.
Thank you Chuck Mattera, Walter Bashaw, Craig Mullaney and Coherent Corp. colleagues for visiting our new high temperature superconductor factory in Zama, Japan! This new factory is pushing boundaries of pulsed laser deposition to truly industrial scale – probably for the first time in history. Coherent Corp.’s high power excimer LEAP lasers are at the heart of our technology. We are excited to continue working with our partners on increasing availability of superconductors for disrupting technologies in power generation and transmission. #coherent #lasers #pld #superconductivity #superconductors #hts

It was our pleasure to have you speak to our members, Pamela Phan! We look forward to continued collaboration with you and your colleagues at the U.S. Department of Commerce to promote the #US-#Japan economic partnership.
Prime Minister Kishida’s Official #StateVisit may be behind us, but #Japan continues to be a strong partner and priority focus for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Asia. On Monday, International Trade Administration (ITA) Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Asia Pamela Phan, alongside ITA DAS for Manufacturing Heather Evans and Bureau of Industry and Security, U.S. Department of Commerce Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Export Administration Matthew Borman, hosted a high-level Japanese parliamentary delegation at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Led by the Honorable AMARI Akira, the delegation’s visit is part of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA’s 2024 U.S.-Japan Integrated Security Dialogue program and marks the second year in the row that the two sides have convened to share perspectives on U.S.-#Japan priorities for #economicsecurity. This follows a virtual briefing last week for U.S. and Japanese members of the U.S.-Japan Business Council (#USJBC) at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in which DAS Phan shared her insights into the U.S. Department of Commerce’s contributions to the April 10 State Visit and its ongoing and robust engagement with Japanese counterparts both bilaterally and across the broader #IndoPacific region. For the Fact Sheet from the April 10 State Visit, see https://lnkd.in/epxruREZ. For the Press Release from the April 10 Japan-U.S. Commercial and Industrial Partnership Ministerial meeting hosted by Commerce Secretary Raimondo, see https://lnkd.in/e3iScifY. The growing importance of the U.S.-Japan economic and commercial relationship is built upon our shared values and a joint resolve to strengthen critical #supplychains, promote and protect #criticalandemergingtechnologies, and collaborate with our private sectors and trusted partners to bolster our mutual economic security and #prosperity. #USJapanAlliance #partnersinprosperity
