Defining today’s warfighter. 💪⚓️ Cmdr. Shelby Nikitin discusses her deployment in command of USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) in 2023. While in the Red Sea, USS Thomas Hudner engaged and destroyed multiple one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicles. The Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer deployed as part of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12, Gerald R. Ford CSG. During the deployment, USS Thomas Hudner operated throughout the Mediterranean and Red Sea regions, deterring aggression as part of CSG 12’s mission to support Israel in its right to self-defense and to deter malign actors from furthering the Israel-Hamas conflict. #navy249 #usnavy #leadership

We will NEVER forget those we lost in the terrorist attack on USS Cole (DDG 67). At 11:18 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2000, when Cole was moored in Aden, Yemen, a small craft approached the ship and detonated an explosive device. The blast caused a 40-by-60-foot hole in the ship’s port side. The attack killed 17 crewmembers and injured 37 additional Sailors. Crew members fought the fires and stopped the flooding for hours following the attack. The Cole returned to sea in 2002. 🚨 In preparation for Hurricane Milton, 26 U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawks and approximately 200 personnel from Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida have relocated to Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. This move is being made to protect the aircraft and personnel from the potential impacts of the hurricane, and to ensure they can quickly return to their home base and resume operations once the storm has passed. While at Maxwell, they will continue to maintain their readiness to respond to emergent situations that may arise. #HurricaneMilton #USNavy
