NEW POLICY GUIDANCE: USAID believes that digital technologies can be a critical enabler of global health and broader socioeconomic development when invested in and managed strategically. USAID’s 🌟Digital Health Position Paper🌟 identifies six practices that can help unlock the potential of digital transformation to give people more equitable access to the safe, secure, and reliable health information and services: 1️⃣ Commit to person-centered point-of-care digital systems 2️⃣ Require standards to enable integrated health service delivery at scale 3️⃣ Support country-led governance of health system digital transformation 4️⃣ Strengthen data privacy, cybersecurity practices, and related country regulations 5️⃣ Deepen engagement with local partners, including the private sector, and 6️⃣ Invest in shared resources that advance the global digital health commons By following these practices, USAID and its partners can support #healthworkers, strengthen #healthsystems, and foster #globalhealthsecurity and resilience in the face of growing health threats. 🤝 USAID's Antimicrobial Resistance Access and Stewardship Initiative (AMRASI) strives to increase access to diagnostics and treatments for bacterial infections, while promoting appropriate use through stewardship training and novel incentives. Last week, CII's Elijah Kahn-Woods joined stakeholders from around the globe at the World AMR Congress to present on this work alongside colleagues from Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc., FIND, and University of Alabama. Diagnostics play a critical role in improving treatment outcomes and reducing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across low- and middle-income countries. 💡 Diagnostic tools are desperately needed at all levels of health facilities to improve providers' ability to accurately diagnose and optimally treat patients, especially in settings where many pathogens are resistant to first-line medicines. Without diagnostics, we risk missing opportunities to treat basic infections with already-available medicines, overprescribing antibiotics where they're not necessary, or selecting a drug that will not be effective against resistant pathogens. Thank you to the World AMR Congress for the opportunity to discuss AMRASI's progress and solicit input from experts across the field!

USAID is pleased to publish its new Digital Health Position Paper (2024-2029). This updated policy guides the agency’s investments in country-based digital technologies and data systems designed to deliver health information and services. Like the Digital Health Vision (2020-2024) before it, the Digital Health Position Paper addresses the problem of fragmented, non-interoperable, and unsustainable digital systems used as part of country health systems. The Digital Health Position Paper also identifies six promising practices for more interoperable, secure, and person-centered digital systems that are grounded in strong country digital governance, local partners, and support from the global digital health commons. Read the report and share your feedback! Link to a one-pager and the full document available in the comments below.
Today, USAID is launching our Digital Health Position Paper, which will guide 2024-2029 investment in data and digital health to strengthen country health systems. USAID envisions a world in which all people have equitable access to safe, secure, and high-quality health services to promote well-being. By supporting partner countries in their efforts to accelerate integrated and person-centered care through use of digital health technologies, USAID empowers health workers and their patients, and fosters global health security and resilience in the face of growing health threats. https://lnkd.in/gWeF9ej9 #digitaltransformation #healthsystems #digitalhealth
