These challenges, combined with her age and location, put her at a higher-than-average risk for acquiring HIV. But a #PEPFAR-initiated program is working with her and other young women and adolescent girls to prevent this outcome. Read the short story: https://bit.ly/3Lr7eue

Global health programs didn’t emphasize #mentalhealthcare in the recent past because the perception was that effective treatments were unavailable. This has changed greatly, according to Diana Chamrad, URC Senior Technical Advisor for Vulnerable Children and Families and Mental Health.

URC recently held a graduation for 25 staff members who completed the Project Management and Leadership Training Program. The 7-month program included 13 training sessions on practical skills and how they relate to URC’s policies and procedures. It included small group discussions and case studies to help participants apply the content to real issues. For example, a section on managing relationships included role playing to demonstrate how a supervisor and supervisee can have different expectations and perceptions of a problem. The training also focused on how to: · Balance trade-offs between scope and cost; · Empower team members; and · Track and act on risks. URC Chief Scientist Dennis Carroll offered this response to recent developments in the #mpox outbreak: "Days ago, the World Health Organization declared the ongoing mpox outbreak in Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Just before that, the Africa Union’s Africa CDC issued a similar public health declaration. The emergence of a new strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its rapid spread to neighboring countries compels an urgent need for a coordinated international response to prevent further spread and protect global health. It’s critical that we: · Accelerate vaccine access; · Enhance surveillance; · Improve diagnostics; and · Understand the new strain through dedicated research. At URC, we stand ready to support these global efforts and ensure health security. It's time for swift, decisive action to stop the spread of mpox and protect communities worldwide."
