Urban League of Greater Atl reposted this
I’m always excited when I can be part of investing in people’s dreams! 🌟 Recently Urban League of Greater Atl partnered with Cobb County for a Small Business Grant Program. This program allow us to work with select businesses , engaging them in programming, training, workshops, coaching, access to resources, and other areas that can enhance and grow their business. The eligible Cobb County businesses that worked with our team were provided the opportunity to apply to pitch their business to a panel of judges who are community lenders and partners. Out of the businesses that pitched - and all of them did an incredible job - we awarded 10 each a $20,000 grant to use as needed for their businesses!! 💰💰 As I told them at the event, I’m looking forward to seeing each of them continue to grow and become job creators because our community needs them! A very special thanks to Cobb County, our community partners, and volunteer judges that made this event possible! 🤝 And finally, kudos to our ULGA team who worked diligently throughout the entire program to make this an incredibly successful culminating event! 🙌 Stephaney Bolden, Marc E. Parham, John Paschal, Kieno Jones II, CBA®, Tanya M Turner, Antonio Shackelford, Kimberly Irvin-Lee We're doing this again next year, so stay tuned for your opportunity!! #entrepreneurship #economicimpact #economicdevelopment

Capital One’s historic Community Benefits Plan is a step towards a more inclusive financial future for people who have far too often been left behind. In their $265 billion plan, they're committing $44 billion in community development financing, $575 million in philanthropy giving, $15 billion in lending to small businesses, and $5 billion in anticipated spending with diverse suppliers – just to name a few priorities. There's huge potential with this Community Benefits Plan, which is why regulators must approve their acquisition of Discover so we can realize its benefits. Keep going, Kelli! #BlackBusinessMonth
This #BlackBusinessMonth, we are highlighting a few entrepreneurs we met earlier this year at our roundtables. Kelli Bain is an entrepreneur in Atlanta who owns N7 Kream Lab Nitrogen. She blends science and culinary art to create a unique and enjoyable ice cream experience. One of her favorite moments was opening a brick-and-mortar in her longtime neighborhood, Ellenwood, which transformed her business from a concept to a tangible presence in the community. Despite rising costs and changing market conditions, Kelli has made strategic decisions to grow her business. By relocating to a shared kitchen and embracing digital ordering, she reduced overhead by 30% and expanded her offerings, including catering and a nonprofit initiative, “The Khem Lab,” that benefits local schools. A key boost came from a $10,000 grant from PepsiCo through the Urban League of Greater Atl that helped to increase productivity and secure a new lease agreement. The support has been significant for her business growth and success. Our report, The State of Black Business, shows persistent challenges and opportunities for progress in Black entrepreneurship.
