🚀 Continuing our series of updates on the progress of our ULGs today we’re excited to share the work being done by our team in City of Tartu, Estonia! Tartu's ULG is focusing on data-driven decision-making to tackle the challenges of remote work. As part of the URBACT Remote-IT network, the group has been exploring how to better organize remote work for public sector employees. Initially, they identified several key issues using the Problem Tree method, but they soon realized they were missing a crucial perspective – that of the employees themselves! 💡 To address this, Tartu’s City Government conducted a comprehensive survey among all public sector employees. The survey delved into: ✅ Attitudes towards remote work: How does it affect communication, work-life balance, and productivity? ✅ Practical aspects: How often are employees working remotely, and what equipment are they using? ✅ Employee preferences: What motivates them to work remotely, and how does this impact the City's attractiveness as an employer? The most valuable was getting to know the overall situation and context of remote work in their organization and the honest attitude towards remote work among their employees and managers. This insight is helping the team shape strategies to support both remote work and collaboration. 🏢💻 Additionally, Tartu aims to position itself as a top destination for remote workers, but there’s still more to learn about who these workers are, the services they use, and the challenges they face. The main lesson? 📊 Data is crucial. Instead of relying solely on assumptions, Tartu's ULG emphasizes the importance of gathering and analysing data to ensure that decisions and strategies are grounded in reality. #cityofTartu #smartcity #Tartu Sandra Õnne Kerttu Ahuna Instagram: https://lnkd.in/dSRinA9w Facebook: https://lnkd.in/dTXCDU33

The Remote-IT network of cities recently held its fourth transnational meeting Last week, our Portuguese partners hosted us in the beautiful Câmara de Lobos, Madeira. 🇵🇹 🍌🍇 During the two-day meeting, partners had the opportunity to come together and work on their visions for remote work-friendly cities using the URBACT methodology. We visited important local sites for cultural and creative development, including the NAMINHATERRA TV studio and the Artist Residency. 🎬 🖼️ This gathering also offered a fantastic opportunity for meaningful connections, allowing Mr. Leonel Correia da Silva, the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, to meet with Ms. JELKA TEPSIC, the Deputy Mayor of PR Grad Dubrovnik / City of Dubrovnik. A key focus of the meeting was the peer review session, where partners helped each other address questions related to their IAP canvases. This session was led by our URBACT experts— LE Alisa Aliti Vlasic and ad-hoc expert Alison Partridge. We learned that exchanging experiences and sharing diverse perspectives is crucial for turning ideas into action! There was a significant discussion about the soft and hard infrastructure essential for attracting and retaining remote workers, as well as ways to incorporate these elements into the pilot actions of each partner city. We are excited to share that our 2nd #podcast was recorded during this meeting and will be available next week! Join our host Mark Thomas, along with Jelka Tepšić, Deputy Mayor of Dubrovnik, Bárbara Rodrigues from ARDITI - Agência Regional para o Desenvolvimento da Investigação Tecnologia e Inovação and Jaime Ruiz Huescar from CITIES FORUM. A big thank you to NaMinhaTerra TV for their invaluable support in making this podcast possible. 🙌 In the coming period, we have a lot of exciting news and activities lined up, including an online forum, so be sure to stay tuned! We look forward to what’s ahead and will cherish the beautiful memories captured in our photos from Câmara de Lobos. 🤳 #camaradelobos #visitcamaradelobos

📢 Meet the Partners: Brindisi 🌅 Location: Brindisi, Italy 👫 Population: 87,141 Brindisi, positioned as a gateway to the renowned Regione Puglia in Italy, grapples with overcoming its industrial history and confronting contemporary challenges associated with demographic shifts, including population decline, an aging populace, increased financial burdens, and the underutilization of public buildings. Despite its strategic coastal location, functioning as a crucial maritime port and a key United Nations logistical hub, Brindisi has not been a preferred tourist destination. Brindisi began to be recognized as a European destination for #digitalnomads in various rankings published by The Guardian and Airbnb from 2021 onwards. However, the city currently lacks a comprehensive strategic plan outlining how to bolster remote work readiness and cultivate its local economy by enticing international talent to reside and work in Brindisi. Brindisi acknowledges that the structural shifts in the geography of work brought about by the pandemic present a unique opportunity to creatively devise a new strategy aligned with emerging demands. #Brindeasy #Brindisea #Brindisi URBACT

📢 Meet the Partners: Tirana 🌇 Location: Tirana, Albania 👫 Population: 494,000 As the capital and economic-social center of #Albania, #Tirana grapples with the challenges of accommodating its expanding population, resulting in heightened pressures on housing, urban mobility, and labour markets. Tirana recognizes the significance of broadening its economic base, especially with the city emerging as a favoured destination for digital nomads and remote workers. Over the past two years, Tirana has steadily attracted a considerable number of digital nomads, with the Nomad List indicating a consistent interest from more than 400 professionals in visiting the country and the city. Municipality of Tirana has actively sought to engage this group by organizing the Digital Nomad Festival Tirana in 2022 and promoting its coworking spaces, local IT ecosystem, and cultural attractions. Consequently, there is a timely and strategic imperative to develop remote work preparedness, not only to support the city's economic development but also to address broader challenges, such as enhancing urban mobility and fostering connections between urban and rural areas.
