As we celebrate Women's Equality, it's crucial to shine a light on the challenges that continue to hold women back in their careers. Did you know that 40% of working mothers say parenthood has negatively impacted their career advancement, compared to just 20% of fathers? This statistic is more than a number—it's a stark reminder of the childcare gap that disproportionately affects women, especially in frontline industries. Our latest article, The Childcare Gap: Why Your Diversity Initiatives Are Falling Short, dives into how inadequate childcare support is a major barrier to gender equality in the workplace. From limited career advancement to increased turnover and persistent wage gaps, the impact is profound. Read the full article to learn how we can address these challenges and truly support women in the workforce. https://lnkd.in/egUcMGY8

I just made my LAST $1800 monthly childcare payment 🎉🤢 Yeah, that’s not a typo: the working parents on your team are paying a BOATLOAD of money on childcare. It’s even more when they’re infants. …and I don’t want to talk about how high the bill was when I had two in at the same time 🫠 I put my first child in daycare when he was around 4 months old. My daughter started going at 8 weeks. That's a lot of money and I recognize my privilege in being able to afford it. I am one of the lucky ones. I have a well paying job (insert plug for why sales is such a great career for mothers) and it still made sense for me to work even with the steep cost. With my second starting kindergarten in a few weeks, I’m so grateful to finally be out of the childcare game 😮💨 (at least until next summer when I have to figure out how to manage THAT for two kids) …but just because I am no longer personally paying insane bills for childcare, doesn’t mean I don’t still care a lot about fixing this problem. Incredibly expensive childcare is a BIG reason behind the gender wage gap. It's why there aren't as many women in the room. It’s why a lot of women opt out of working at all (regardless of if they want to pause their career) Also, this problem affects more than just moms (parenting has no gender). Even though that money isn't pouring out of my bank account anymore, I'm going to continue to push for benefits and policies that help fix this problem. We have to do better for the parents on our teams ✌️

“The cost of childcare is overwhelming” $5,000 a month spent solely on childcare!? That’s more than 3x the average rent in America 🤯 Posts like this one resonate with our mission at Upwards. Caregivers should no longer have to choose between affordable and quality childcare. Nor should they stay out of the workforce due to the lack of it. Thank you for keeping the conversation going and bringing attention to a real-life example of why childcare is such an important topic for employers and HR leaders. #ChildcareCost #ChildcareBenefits #Upwards

The Cost of Childcare is Keeping Me Out of the Workforce 📰 ‼️ 🗞️ My Letter to the Editor published in the 8/19 Trenton Times outlined how $5000 for daycare for my #ThreeUnderThree is the norm and it shouldn’t be. We are being asked to choose between affordable OR quality childcare and we shouldn’t be. This problem affects many of us and people remain unheard and we shouldn’t be. Thanks to Moms First for the encouragement! Let’s #GetChildcareOnTheRecord. *link in comments
