Several years ago, I had the privilege to work with Nick Culbertson and his team to find a new home for Protenus to grow at Brown's Wharf in historic Fells Point. When they decided to move on from the space this year, we decided to use it as an opportunity to host an #EquitechTuesday this past week in partnership with UpSurge Baltimore and Continental Realty Corporation. It was great to get together with so many local tech leaders after the Labor Day holiday and share a bit more both about Brown's Wharf history and its future with everyone. Links to more info about Brown's Wharf and more photos of the event in the comments:
This week, the #Equitech community came together for #EquitechTuesday "New Spaces, New Faces" at the beautiful Brown’s Wharf space in Fells Point. The event, hosted in collaboration with Continental Realty Corporation and JLL, with delicious fare from Barcocina highlighted a perfect blend of historical charm and modern innovation. Peter Jackson, VP of JLL, shared a few words about the exciting future of Brown’s Wharf, which now houses innovative Baltimore-based companies. It was an evening filled with inspiring discussions and the future of Baltimore’s tech scene. 🌟🚀 Click the link in the comments to view the gallery of beautiful photos from this event!

Another #equitech in the books. The ‘hold my bier’ sign in the back is a bit poetic as we all continue to build our dreams in the face of adversity, build ‘critical mass’, and show up for each other. We build in Baltimore. I tried my best to engage in some conversation with a handful of folks in between kicking a soccer ball with my kiddo (there’s a limited amount of time before we hit an exit left stage). She’s seemingly taken the over abundance of energy I used to have as her own when she was born…and as futile as it seems sometimes to bring my child with me to some of these work events, something cool happened. Kory Bailey✨ queued someone up to speak and she happened to be a woman looking to expand biotech in this region. Everyone was listening quietly and intently. My daughter noticed. She asked me to pick her up. I did. She paused and listened. I looked around. It was a cool moment where my young girl got to witness a big group of people intently listening to another woman. You may not care about that moment or even notice it but, I do. She does. Moments like that matter. It was just really cool to see and see how she responds. I don’t want to be the only woman or minority example in her life that she sees being listened to, respected, or running things. She deserves to be surrounded by a diverse group leaders of all kinds and minds. She deserves to be in the rooms where decisions are made and listened to when she speaks. . . . Chief Hydration Officer @Jay's Watermelonade - Hydrating Baltimore in a Refreshing & Heart-Healthy Way! #MarylandToughBaltimoreStrong
“Do I know you from somewhere?” “I’m not sure… but I know you!” Was the start of my interaction with Dawn Myers, founder of Richualist who I met at yesterday’s premiere of Industry Social Club at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. It was just the other day I watched her appearance on Shark Tank— my now household cleaning companion as I prepare for more pitching— which instantly became one of my favorite pitches to date! After coming back down to earth I digested some valuable takeaways from the panel discussion centered on the current state of tech and innovation in Baltimore: There may not be work-life balance as founders and builders, but there can be harmony - Kory Bailey✨ CEO UpSurge Baltimore Become comfortable doing what makes you uncomfortable - Taylor C. Director of Programs Dent Education Just start, you never know where you’ll end up - Anthony Watters founder More Watter co. and Director of Social Innovation Lab at Johns Hopkins University Brianne Mobley and Alanah Nichole Davis brought so much liveliness to the event and discussion as facilitators. Looking forward to the next one! #tech #innovation #baltimore #founders
