United Way brings the community together! Hundreds of volunteers, Loaned Executives, United Way staff and corporate and agency partners came together to support local teachers this year! The 2024 United Way Write Start Project, presented by USAA, provided teachers in Harlandale ISD and East Central Independent School District with more than $40,000 in school supplies this summer, easing the financial burden of preparing their classrooms. With a heavy heart, we share the news of the passing of a beloved United Way volunteer, Mary Rose Brown. Her remarkable professional achievements, philanthropic endeavors and personal dedication to the community have left a lasting impact. Mary Rose's efforts significantly enhanced the quality of life for countless individuals in San Antonio, particularly through initiatives that empowered underserved communities. Her generosity knew no bounds and her willingness to lend a helping hand inspired us all. As a trusted and deeply involved volunteer, Mary Rose supported United Way's mission to create meaningful, lasting change in our city. She served on the United Way Board of Directors for many years and contributed her expertise to various United Way committees, including the Marketing, Resource Development and Strategic Planning Committees. Mary Rose was also a founding member of United Way's Women United, the largest women-led philanthropic group in the country, which empowers parents and children to thrive through quality childcare, mentorship and education. Let us not only mourn the loss of Mary Rose, but also celebrate her life by continuing her tradition of kindness and community service. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary Rose's family and friends during this difficult time. Her enduring advocacy for change will continue to inspire and influence the lives of many for generations to come.
