Every day, more than 9,000 Americans turn 65, facing new challenges and opportunities. For some, a wide-open calendar can feel disorienting and disconnecting. Some women may approach retirement with fewer savings due to wage inequity and part-time work with career interruptions for family care. United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania is dedicated to meeting people where they are, and in response, created NextUP to provide meaningful connections and guidance for women navigating this new phase of life. NextUP is a branch of Women United and is now in its third year offering more structure and opportunities for women to thrive. In our latest Voices United blog, NextUP co-chairs Dottie Alken and Sanda Harker share how being part of a group dedicated to investing in women and children, while offering valuable networking opportunities, has greatly supported their journeys into retirement.
