Gender equality is key for effective local climate policies. When women are meaningfully included, climate actions are more effective and aligned with local needs. UNDP Climate
International Affairs
We work with nearly 150 countries to turn their climate goals into action.
About us
Tackling the climate crisis requires all countries to make bold pledges under the Paris Agreement, or NDCs, to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming and strengthen adaptation to its impacts. At UNDP Climate, our commitment is to ensure that any country wishing to increase the ambition of their national climate pledge is able to do so. UNDP is now scaling up its support for countries to turn their NDC targets into concrete action – while continuing to push for greater ambition. Leveraging the NDCs as an umbrella, UNDP is bringing together its extensive infrastructure, networks and breadth of substantive offers to provide comprehensive support on NDC implementation. This effort is underpinned by strong support to green COVID-19 recovery measures, as well as leveraging UNDP's strength through measures that align UNDP’s broader portfolio with the Paris Agreement and NDCs.

The world is currently on track to be 2.7°C warmer by 2030. A world that is 2.7°C warmer is catastrophic to human health, food security, water resources, economies, and our wildlife and nature. We need to take action before it’s too late. As governments prepare to update their national climate plans (also known as Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs) ahead of February 2025, it is in every country’s interest to keep 1.5°C in reach by increasing their climate ambition and implementing more climate solutions quickly. When every fraction of a degree counts, the next round of NDCs is a chance for countries to renew their commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Climate adaptation relies heavily on public funding. Meanwhile, private sources account for less than 2 percent of the total adaptation finance. Addressing and identifying barriers is critical for mobilizing the private sector towards climate action. To facilitate a wider knowledge exchange on this topic, UNDP and FAO are co-organizing a webinar today from 14:00 to 15:30 CET. The event will be in English, with simultaneous interpretation in French and Spanish. See the full agenda and register your spot here: https://go.undp.org/oQo

In East Africa, the Indigenous Maasai people play a crucial role in preventing land degradation and conserving ecosystems through their practices that promote harmonious co-existence with nature. Savannas Forever, a non-profit research and development organization, is working closely with communities in Tanzania to make this happen with support from the UNDP-Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA)., Funded by the European Union and Adaptation Fund, the initiative integrates Indigenous knowledge in selecting the species to be planted and employs local women and young people to collect the seeds and cultivate productive plant mixtures.
