I captured an Umbra image over Blue Origin's Exploration Park facilities yesterday (2024-10-11 02:59:08 UTC) and noticed that the new storage facility looked like it had fallen over. Earlier today Blue Origin's CEO Dave Limp confirmed (https://lnkd.in/gyVaMSFu) the building under construction had fallen due to high winds. Thankfully Lunar Plant 1, a building that will be used to construct the company's lunar landers, appears to be okay. (Thanks to Julia Bergeron (https://lnkd.in/ggnUiKFB) for the reference picture taken before the hurricane.)

Yesterday we wrapped up the 4th Satellite Tasking #STAPI sprint! A HUGE thank you to NV5 Geospatial for hosting us this week at their Colorado office, and shoutout to all of the amazing organizations that contributed. Highlights from yesterday's sessions include: - Working through some real world examples of products and improved documentation with diagrams to better describe STAPI - Starting additional libraries for validation and a Python client - Reworking opportunity and product endpoints to better align with OGC APIs and STAC which will also allow for better validation models - Refactoring stapi-fastapi for new endpoints - Developing workflows and examples for using STAPI to order derived analytic products - Open Cosmos got a working API proxy to their tasking API for exploring opportunities Last, but not least, Umbra got a working end-to-end prototype & tasked an image using STAPI!!!!!! Stay tuned for our full recap blog post coming soon to check it out. We made huge strides this week, but there's still a lot to accomplish. We're looking forward to making more progress as we gear up for our next STAPI sprint this spring....

Chinese Coast Guard enters Arctic waters for the first time in joint patrol with the Russian Coast Guard. What are the details? According to Semaphore analysis, two Chinese Coast Guard vessels and one Russian Coast Guard vessel were observed on AIS on 01OCT24 passing within eight nautical miles of the Alaskan coast. The convoy travelled south until the vessels nearly simultaneously went AIS dark, just over 12 nautical miles southwest of King Island, Alaska. Despite being AIS dark, Semaphore analysis of Umbra satellite imagery confirmed the end of their patrol as they were probably observed near Provideniya, Russia in SAR imagery on 02OCT24 and 04OCT24, and observed travelling further southwest on 05OCT24 in optical imagery. The observed activity indicates China's commitment to the Arctic following their claim as a "near-Arctic state" and their economic interest in the development of the Northern Sea Route. Detecting evidence of rocket engine tests using optical and SAR satellite imagery. The below images from Airbus Defence and Space - Intelligence & Umbra show visible proof of rocket engine test fires at a test stand used by Rocket Lab at NASA's Stennis Space Center. The effects can been seen on the ground/dirt next to the test stand where the exhaust from the engine interacts with soil, as well as the trees that are a little too close to the stand. This is fairly normal for most rocket engine test stands. There are even images from the CORONA, GAMBIT, and HEXAGON programs showing these same effects at soviet rocket engine test sites in the 60s, 70s, & 80s.
