Congratulations to Lisbeth Corry, RN, a clinical nurse from the obstetrics float pool at UMass Memorial Medical Center, who was recently presented with the DAISY Award! Lisbeth was nominated by a patient whose newborn required specialized care in our newborn intensive care unit. The patient said, "From the moment I met Lisbeth, she made me feel so safe and heard and comfortable ... She sat on my bed and hugged me while I sobbed. She took the time to explain to me what was happening and to make sure I felt heard and listened to." Noting that she was completely focused on her baby's well-being, the patient continued, " She made sure I had my meds. She made sure I had eaten. She made sure I was cared for. When I had nothing for myself because I was giving everything to my son, she was there for me." The patient also described Lisbeth as empathetic, relatable, kind, smart, supportive and amazing. "She brought a smile and an upbeat personality that just made me feel like everything was going to be okay," the patient said. “This isn’t a job to her. This is who she is... nurses are special, and Lisbeth is the best of them all... I will never forget her kindness, her care, or her.” The DAISY Foundation rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care our nurses provide every day. • Our caregivers are always looking to lend a hand, make a difference and create new memories with their colleagues. Volunteering at Community Harvest Project, Inc. allows them to do all of that — and more. Thanks for having us!

271 volunteers in just SIX DAYS engaged in the meaningful work that keeps our farm and orchard running. As our season is winding down, the fields are being prepared for winter. Many hands make light work and having seen more than 5,000 volunteers by October (!) has been a tremendous help in moving our mission forward. This week we want to thank students from South High Worcester and the Bromfield School, National Grid, UMass Memorial Medical Center, the Hector Reyes House, Middlesex Savings Bank, Central One Federal Credit Union, Fitchburg State University, and Charles River Laboratories. Visit https://lnkd.in/gpyH-_d for more information about how you can support our work. #volunteer #community #giveback #hungerrelief #graftonma

  • Meet Emily Lufty, a Medical Assistant for our Clinical Support Staff in the Oncology Clinic at UMass Memorial Medical Center. "I didn’t always envision a career in healthcare. Initially, I set my sights on a path in culinary arts, but as life took its course, I found myself drawn to healthcare. The turning point for me was realizing how profoundly I wanted to make a difference in people's lives and contribute to their well-being. This passion for helping others ultimately led me to this fulfilling field. My favorite part of the job has always been the patients. Over the past 18 years, I've had the incredible privilege of connecting with people from all walks of life, learning about their personal stories, and playing a small role in their journeys. Each interaction is a reminder of why I chose this path and how much it means to me. One of the most memorable moments in my career happened when we received an innovation grant that enabled us to provide wigs to patients who couldn't afford them through insurance. The first time we were able to give a wig to a patient and hear her share how it renewed her confidence and willingness to embrace life fully was truly unforgettable. Working at UMass Memorial Health has been a remarkable experience. The opportunities for growth and the supportive environment have been invaluable. Over the nearly seven years I’ve been here, I’ve had the chance to collaborate with extraordinary colleagues who have mentored me and helped me evolve professionally. The sense of community and the shared commitment to patient care make UMass Memorial Health a special place to work. When I'm not working, I can often find me at my son's football games, cheering on my favorite team. I also love spending time with family and friends as well as spending time at my favorite local tattoo shop." We're so glad life led you to us, Emily, and that our patients have a caregiver that's so kind and caring by their side. #MyUMassMemorialMark #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

  • Way to go, Naomi! You're making a difference more than you even know — not only for yourself, but for our patients and visitors at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

  • Dr. Andres Schanzer, chief of Vascular Surgery, Dr. Jessica Simons, and the Vascular Surgery team just completed their 600th fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair (FEVAR)! “With each and every repair, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to provide this lifesaving therapy to patients,” commented Dr. Schanzer. “It has taken an entire team effort to provide these patients with minimally invasive aortic repair and I feel incredibly grateful to work with such outstanding partners across our entire health system.” FEVAR is a special type of surgical repair that requires our team to design a device that is placed into the aorta, thus allowing the blood to pass through this stent while excluding the aneurysm. But, in order to meet the special needs of the aorta, this device, called a fenestrated endograft, must be customized to match the exact physiology of each patient. Said another way, the team uses special imaging software that takes exact measurements to match the specific anatomy. The endograft is designed just for that patient. Congrats to the entire complex aortic disease team for this huge accomplishment!

  • It's been four years since Alesia Tringal was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This survivor credits the exceptional caliber of the team of caregivers at UMass Memorial Health for helping her through, who have enabled her to enjoy every day and every moment so much more. “There is an amazing capacity for the body to heal," adds Alesia. "I'm active and living life. I even ran a race a couple months ago and placed fourth in my age group. And, I couldn't have done it without the care, compassion and level of expertise of the UMass Memorial Health Breast Center team.” Learn all about UMMH's Breast Cancer Center: https://lnkd.in/ex3ACNEF #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #StrongerThanCancer

  • Congrats to Dr. Shruti Hegde — UMass Memorial Medical Center cardiologist and Director of Nuclear and CT Imaging — who has been selected to participate in the highly regarded Women as One CLIMB program! This prestigious initiative aims to advance the careers of women in cardiology by providing specialized training in complex cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Hegde will focus on heart failure and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy — a condition caused by protein buildup in the heart making it harder to pump blood effectively. Through her participation in the CLIMB program, she is furthering her mission to drive innovation and awareness in cardiac amyloidosis, with the goal of advancing both research and clinical care.
