UK Innovate at the University of Kentucky, the innovation, entrepreneurship and economic enterprise for UK Research, recognized and celebrated UK innovators at its Patent Palooza! event on Oct. 15. The event spotlighted key achievements from fiscal year 2024 and recognized more than 120 UK innovators who were issued 43 patents, had 66 licenses and options executed for their innovations, received two SBIR/STTR (Small Business Innovation Research-Small Business Technology Transfer) awards and 29 teams completed Launch Blue’s UAccel program. This month, we’ve been exploring how Social Innovation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Today, we're spotlighting an innovation at UK that aligns with Goal #5: Gender Equality. Kentucky Perinatal Action for Concurrent Tobacco Treatment (K-PACT), developed by the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, is an innovative, accessible online training program empowering hundreds of pregnant women to quit smoking. The program features interactive modules, up-to-date recommendations and specialized content on electronic nicotine products and concurrent substance use.
