Sukkot resonates more deeply this year — especially after a visit to the trapped communities in the north of Israel and the more than 250,000 people still living under constant threat of missiles just outside the evacuation zone. It’s been one year of heartbreak — and one year of channeling that heartbreak into action. Since October 7, we’ve leveraged relationships with hundreds of partners and grantees, allocating $134 million to date. Throughout this time, we’ve provided emergency aid and invested in the long-term needs of the people of Israel as they begin the journey of healing and rebuilding. Still reeling from the devastation of Helene, Florida was hit by #HurricaneMilton, another catastrophic storm. As we assess the immediate needs with our longtime partners on the ground, we’re reminded that crises don’t take turns — and neither does our response. Whether it's generators, fresh water, or a safe place to observe Yom Kippur, please join us in helping those affected by this already record-breaking hurricane season. Last night, tens of thousands from across our New York community — people of all faiths and backgrounds — came together to honor the heroes and remember those brutally killed and kidnapped one year ago on October 7. We heard from survivors of the Nova massacre, bereaved parents, and hostage family members who courageously shared their stories. Over 50 rabbis of every denomination led us in a deeply moving communal kaddish. And the soaring voices of teens from local high school choirs, along with renowned singers David Broza, Eden Golan, and Regina Spektor, lifted us all. An evening of grief, resilience, community — and hope. Tonight, thousands joined us, Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, and Bring Them Home Now NYC in Central Park, at Temple Emanu-El, online, and at memorials across New York to commemorate October 7. To the community leaders, elected officials, school choirs, rabbis, and performers who joined us this evening, thank you.
