Like many Army stories, Marion Whicker wasn’t expecting her Army career to be of much consequence when she started as an intern in September 1984. She planned to get some basic experience and then move on to another job, likely in the auto industry. Exactly 40 years after starting as an intern, Whicker is retiring from her role as the executive deputy to the commanding general for Army Materiel Command, the senior civilian serving in the Army’s largest logistics and sustainment organization.

Gate 8, at the intersection of Drake and Patton roads, is repaired. Redstone Arsenal will resume normal Gate 8 and Gate 10 operations effective Thursday 10 October 2024. Normal operations are as follows: Gate 10 will be open from 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Gate 8 will open at 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Dylan Lemasters said Sept. 28 that POW-MIA Recognition Day ceremonies are an opportunity to show “we are and will remain relentless in our promise, commitment and dedication” to bring home more than 81,000 service members still missing and unaccounted for. “This is a mission that is of the highest priority,” Lemasters said at the seventh annual POW-MIA event at the Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville. “It is America’s Soldiers’ and citizens’ sacred duty. Effective today at 1:30 p.m., Redstone Arsenal is closing Gate 8, on Drake/Goss, through Sunday because of construction. In the interim, Gate 10, at Jordan/Patton, will be open from 5:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Gate 8 will reopen as normal on Monday, according to the Garrison.
