It was a warm day for a ribbon cutting, but we’re excited to have our workforce center officially open at the New Nissan Stadium project site! We joined the Tennessee Titans and our community partners on Monday to celebrate the occasion. The workforce center will host career training, continuing education classes, K-12 education initiatives and more throughout the construction project. Special thanks to Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Deniece Thomas for joining us and for the department's contribution to the success of our workforce programs. We have many community partners who are dedicating time and resources to support these initiatives. We couldn’t do it without you! Remember JFK Stadium in Philly? 🤔 Philadelphia Municipal Stadium, known as the John F. Kennedy Stadium until being demolished in 1992, was an open-air stadium constructed by Turner in 1926 for Philadelphia’s Sesquicentennial Exposition. Constructed of brick and concrete, the stadium, designed by architectural firm Simon & Simon, was located on Broad Street at Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia. Each of the stadium's 35 arched entrances was adorned in limestone and trimmed with granite. The massive horseshoe-shaped structure spanned 710’ by 1,020’ and regularly accommodated 75,000 spectators. On one rainy night, Municipal Stadium played host to more than 120,000 boxing enthusiasts who watched Gene Tunney defeat Jack Dempsey. In addition to being a premier outdoor boxing venue, the stadium also served as home field for the Philadelphia Quakers (American Football League – 1920s), the Philadelphia Eagles (1930s), and the Philadelphia Bell (World Football League) in the 1970s. The Stadium was condemned in 1992 and subsequently demolished. Standing in its place is the Wells Fargo Center, which is part of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. #BuiltbyTurner #BroadStreet #SouthPhilly #TurnerPhiladelphia #JFK
