Every year, 300,000 children are born with a treatable disease, but because they don’t have access to basic diagnostic testing, 50%-80% of them will not receive timely preventative care.  𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 I'm talking about Sickle Cell Disease. Even though treatment is effective and inexpensive, the majority of children in Sub-Saharan Africa will not receive a diagnosis or treatment before it is too late. They will die before their 5th birthday. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Sickle Forward is a non-profit organization, that has identified a way to solve this problem. They have partnered with a US-based diagnostic company to drive down the cost of point of care testing to $2 per person. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 On June 14, Persephoni Biopartners, B+labs, and Cytophl will be hosting the Red Out happy hour in Philadelphia, to fundraise in support of sickle cell disease. 100% of the donations will go to Sickle Forward. 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 You might ask yourself, what if I don’t live in Philadelphia? Can I still help? The answer is 🙌YES🙌. You can help by making a donation.💳 For me, it’s a no brainer, which is why my company Trulitica will be supporting this important mission. If you are in the position to donate, please click the link below and donate whatever it is that makes sense for you. heres the link to donate: https://lnkd.in/eWEYdV-F 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲? Is AI here to replace humans? Absolutely not, but things will change as we adapt to new technologies. It is likely that human factors will become a big differentiator in future roles. Think of customer support bots. Does anybody appreciate working with them? How about the automated chat GPT-written connection requests you receive on LinkedIn? You can always tell when someone is using AI because although it contains the right words, it lacks the meaning that is inherent in human connections. On March 7, at the PhD Pathways Summit, Ali Divan, Ph.D. will be talking about how to connect with people sincerely and how to leverage your own human element in your networking approach. Link to the event in the comments! #networking #biotechnology

There are many ways to break the ice with someone and build a relationship. Spamming them with your CV isn't one of them. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵? -Avoid InMail -Send a connection request -Personalize the request -Talk about something you have in common -Make the note about them, not you -Say you would like to connect -Give them time to respond. 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: "Hi. I'm expanding my network and found your profile impressive. I am looking for a job in the biotechnology space. Here's my life story [500 words later....]. I have attached my CV for your review. Please let me know when you would like to discuss further" Why is this bad? It's generic, insincere, too long, and about you only. It also creates work for the person reading it. 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: Hi [name]. Looks like we both [something you have in common]. I also noticed [something about them]. Would love to connect and learn more about [something about them]. Why is this good? It's specific, authentic, short, and about the reader. It creates very little work for the reader. Much higher chance of getting a response to this. 👉For more tips on networking and best practices for scientists wanting to land new biotech roles, give me a follow. PS - my DMs are open (just don't send me a 500 word message with your CV attached 👀) #biotechjobs #biotech
