About us

The Tri-County Humane Society (TCHS) is Central Minnesota's independent, nonprofit animal shelter. We are not a government agency nor are we associated with any State or National humane organization. We rely on community support to make ends meet through volunteering, donations, fundraising events, and adoption fees. In an average year, over 3,500 animals come to our door. We are an open admission animal shelter, and yet there is no time limit for the adoptable animals in our care. Each has needs that are met with kindness, love and support for as long as it takes until they find a home, and the average length of stay before pets get adopted is under two weeks! All dogs, cats and critters are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We also vaccinate, deworm and microchip all dogs and cats, and give them a basic examination. Updates

  • We have a good tale (tail?) to share this Friday afternoon. Settle in. The stray cat Yoda recently came to Tri-County Humane Society after being picked up in Rockville. It turns out, he was microchipped, and he had been missing for months from his home in Little Falls! We were so happy to reunite Yoda with his human (pictured). Microchips are tiny, but they offer a big sense of security. They're a permanent form of identification (collars and ID tags are important, but they can fall off), and they make stories like this one possible. ** Tri-County Humane Society will have a low-cost microchip clinic tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 7) during our Woofstock fundraiser. Join us anytime from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wilson Park in St. Cloud and get your pet chipped, or check and see if they're chipped if you're unsure. The cost for chipping is $10 plus tax. Walk-ins only! #TeamTCHS #TCHSevents 320-252-0896 https://lnkd.in/ekBqSA5

  • In June, one of our volunteer photographers took adorable footage of a very tiny TCHS kitten hollering big time in his kennel as he demanded cuddles! Little Marshall’s video didn’t just garner literally thousands of views on social media (almost 700,000 on TikTok alone!), it helped get him a home. How’s the vocal dude doing? “Marshall is living his best life,” his human writes. “His brothers love him (9-year-old Chuck was a hard sell at first, but you’ll see from the pics that he’s coming around).” Marshall’s other sibling is Bean, who is 6 months old. “They each have their own personality but make us so happy. Marshall likes to make a blanket nest in my bed and squeak when I move. He purrs so loudly that when I’m chatting with my mom on the phone she can hear him. He’s a noisy boy but is THE SWEETEST. Two things got me when I saw your initial post about Marshall. 1) He was so vocal and just wanted someone’s love - let me tell you, he has mine! And 2) When I was 10 years old, we found a stray little white floofball that my mom and dad let me keep and I named him Marshall. He lived until I was 25. When I saw this boy (and his name!), I knew it was meant to be that he join our family. He’s the best addition!” When you’re this loved, it’s OK to be loud about it! Keep living your best life, Marshall. Read more adoption stories at https://lnkd.in/eSQKFtS #AdoptatTCHS #TCHSdogs #TCHScats #TCHSkittens #TCHScritters #TeamTCHS

  • The adopter of today’s Feel Good Fur-Day subject says she thinks her pup proves that “rescue is the best breed!” (We can’t say we disagree.) Ember the Lab Retriever puppy came to Tri-County Humane Society in late June to find a new home. Her stay at the shelter lasted a few weeks, although she did get a field trip with a volunteer toward the end of her stay because she was getting a little cabin fever. She found her home in mid-July, and she is adjusting very well with her humans and pet siblings. “She loves to run and play, but also just lay her head on our laps and realize she is at home,” one of her humans writes. “She has discovered water and loves it, and can’t get enough of tennis balls that squeak. She is working on controlling her big noodle legs and realizing she is a 55-pound puppy!” Ember will turn 1 later this fall – we know will continue to discover new things and spend quality time with her family! • Today’s tiny Feel Good Fur-Day subject is living large, thanks to her human. Pebble the dwarf hamster arrived at TCHS in early February and was adopted a little more than a week later. “She is a spunky and funny hamster,” her adopter writes. “She loves her 30-gallon cage, but when she hears me get up in the morning, she’s up and ready to come out of her cage (she does the same thing at night).” Pebble’s hobbies include daily activities outside her cage, munching on fresh veggies, and getting sand all over her wheel for her human to clean up. “I’m so grateful I got to rescue her. She’s a great little buddy.” Read more adoption stories at https://lnkd.in/eSQKFtS #AdoptatTCHS #TCHSdogs #TCHScats #TCHSkittens #TCHScritters #TeamTCHS

  • This is a promotion we're beggin' you not to miss! We've taken 50 percent off the Purina Beggin' Strips in the TCHS Re-Tail Shoppe. It's a great deal - and if you don't have a pup at home to treat, consider buying them for our shelter dogs! (They absolutely love them.) Find the TCHS Re-Tail Shoppe in the front lobby of our shelter. All profits from the store go back to our animals! #ShopatTCHS #GivetoTCHS #TeamTCHS 320-252-0896 https://lnkd.in/ekBqSA5

  • Today’s Feel Good Fur-Day subject has just completed a Minnesota milestone: She took her first summertime camping trip to Duluth! Holly is a 5-year-old Miniature Pinscher mix who came to TCHS in mid-November. She was adopted about a week later, and her new family is in love. “She enjoys her homemade dog food, and she absolutely loves getting blueberries for treats. She loves sleeping in bed with us at night and burrowing under the blankets. She has a ton of toys, but her favorite is ‘borrowing’ the cats’ toy mice. She actually caught a mouse in our house – three cats in the house, and Holly was the one who caught it!” Holly and her family just went to Duluth. “She had a blast. She loved hiking and camping and sitting by the fire. She did amazing. She is such an awesome dog – we just love her!” We know Holly enjoyed every minute of her vacation - and she deserved it! • It's Friday, so it's already a good day, and we're about to make it even better with this piece of news: Estelle 68, the last Crosby cat, found her home this week! What's even better is that Estelle's new home is with one of Tri-County Humane Society's outstanding foster volunteers. We *know* this sweet kitty has hit the jackpot! Good things come to those who wait, after all. Our 94-cat intake from a Crosby residence (with the assistance of Minnesota Federated Humane Societies) was almost exactly four months ago. It was a massive undertaking for our staff and volunteers/fosters, but we are so grateful that so many of them found wonderful homes. We could not have done it without the support of our community and our generous friends. Thank you! Be good, Estelle! #AdoptatTCHS #TCHScats #TeamTCHS Photo credit: Caitlin K. 320-252-0896 https://lnkd.in/ekBqSA5
