A nonprofit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating.

About us

Founded in 1985 by Central Atlanta Progress, the Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. and the Atlanta Parks Commissioner, Trees Atlanta has been a prime force in addressing Atlanta's tree loss, creating increased green space, and conserving the city's trees. Since its beginnings, the primary goals of Trees Atlanta have been to replace trees lost to development, conserve existing trees, protect green space areas, and educate the community’s residents and workers about the many benefits of trees. These actions have resulted in Trees Atlanta becoming one of the most widely known non-profits throughout metro-Atlanta and a highly regarded community steward of our urban environment.

Help us celebrate President Jimmy Carter's 100th birthday on October 1st! 🎂 Plant a tree in his honor during the month of October and share photos of the planting using the hashtag #TreesForCarter100. Here in Atlanta, we'll be kicking off the celebration on October 1st by planting a Live Oak (Quercus virginiana, Georgia State Tree) at both the Georgia State Capitol and The Carter Center. Throughout the planting season, we plan to plant 100 trees at The Carter Center as a tribute to President Carter's legacy of environmental stewardship. Help us grow his legacy for future generations, and share your tree planting photo with the #TreesForCarter100. Tag us @Trees Atlanta and tell us your city, and we'll include you in our message to President Carter. Photo: LBJ Library

A few weeks ago, we celebrated the graduation of the second cohort in the Urban Forestry Career Pathways (UFOR) program. These young adults completed ten weeks of paid, on-the-job training in the green workforce and received coaching to increase financial literacy, job search skills, and good work habits. Throughout the program, we witnessed their growth and dedication to developing both personally and professionally. We're excited to see all they will achieve as they enter the green workforce! As we say goodbye to this cohort, we look forward to welcoming the next group of young adults into the UFOR program. Applications are open until September 27 — apply now at https://lnkd.in/eVcrCqsp Photos: Greening Youth Foundation NA -- Urban Forestry Career Pathways (UFOR) is a workforce development program operated in partnership with Greening Youth Foundation NA, On the Rise Community Development Inc., Trees Atlanta, and Atlanta Beltline. UFOR is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and USDA, USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program.

I’ve recently started leading Forest Restoration projects in Proctor Creek Greenway as a forest steward with Trees Atlanta. I was super excited today to see Blue Mist Flower in greenway. I’m hoping over the next few months we’ll see more native trees and wildflowers prospering in the greenway as a result of our work.

Today, I completed my 6th volunteer event with Trees Atlanta, removing the invasive Cherry Laurel at Connally Family Cemetery. I am now a Green Shirt Volunteer! I have been volunteering with Trees Atlanta to practice plant identification and forest restoration, and am looking forward to attending many more volunteer and education events in the future. I love hanging out with and learning from nature nerds! Shoutout to Savannah Tello, a Trees Atlanta project coordinator and the presenter of my shirt! Cue 'September' by Earth, Wind, and Fire 🕺

Our W&A engineering Atlanta office is committed to contributing to the Atlanta community. A group from our Atlanta office had the opportunity to serve Trees Atlanta this month for a community service project. In addition to helping save the canopy of our community, we are proud to donate $2,500 to this impactful organization that protects and improves Atlanta's urban forest by planting, conserving and education. Community Forestry Manager at Trees Atlanta

Another planting season approaches, and this time I’ll be leading the team! I would be lying if I said I am not nervous, but overall feeling excited. Most excited about increasing my skillset ten-fold! I was recently promoted to the Community Forestry Manager role. In this role I’ll manage the team that handles all volunteer plantings in public spaces for Metro Atlanta! Who would’ve thunk when applying to the entry level position at Trees Atlanta after leaving NYC just 5 years ago, I would be where I am at now! Recently, the new team of Community Foresters and I had a park day at Piedmont Park Conservancy to create our team manifesto. We discussed our strengths, weaknesses, conflict resolution styles, and how we can lift eachother up professionally and personally in our new roles. A lot of these team building exercises I took from my time in AmeriCorps NCCC. A program I can’t thank enough for setting me up in my current success, and allowing me to find my passion. Trees and Community Work! Anywho, here are some sappy (tree pun) photos of us! *not pictured - Hutson showing us Cookout’s Cheerwine Milkshake afterwards* Please check out the Trees Atlanta Calendar of Events for a slew of stellar volunteer opportunities with us. https://lnkd.in/g6n5knRx E. One of W&A's values is Socially Responsible, and our Atlanta office embodied that value last week during our day of service with Trees Atlanta! We helped remove invasive species from a portion of the Morningside Nature Preserve and learned about ways we can be more intentional in our design to help avoid these species and create more sustainable spaces for native species we plant back. See the last pictures for one tree I was especially proud of 😎

Senior Director, Enterprise Tech at Cox Automotive

It's a fantastic Friday when our Cox Automotive Inc. colleagues get to care for our local 'urban forest' through Trees Atlanta! 🌳 💙 The metro Atlanta area has so much beautiful greenspace, and while planting trees is crucial for a thriving urban ecosystem, caring for those trees is required to keep our urban forests healthy. Urban Forester Christopher Worst provided a ton of insightful education and coaching as we cleaned up the surrounding soil, mulched, and removed old roots across multiple areas across Sandy Springs, GA - which was only a couple of miles from the Cox Enterprises Atlanta campus! Thank you Trees Atlanta and we look forward to volunteering again soon!
