Last week, I signed a disaster declaration along with @kirkpwatson to ensure Travis County is prepared for the threat of wildfires. It is important that we all do our part to prevent man-made fires. Please remember the risk of wildfires is still high and there is a burn ban in Travis County. Thank you to @traviscounty_emergencyservices, @traviscounty_starflight, @plugervillefiredepartment, and @austinfiredept for everything you do to keep our community safe.

Today, I signed a disaster declaration for Travis County to better prepare should a wildfire occur at this ultra-dry time. Most wildfires are preventable. Don't let yourself or your friends be responsible for the next big fire–follow this guidance👇 1. Never throw a lit cigarette out the window of a vehicle or on the ground. 2. Check trailer chains to avoid dragging them. 3. Avoid parking your vehicle on dry grass or driving through tall grass. 4. Lastly, stay prepared and sign up for emergency alerts and messages on severe weather like wildfire from WarnCentralTexas.org.

On World Mental Health Day, let's come together for mental well-being and break the stigma. It’s always okay to ask for help. Check in regularly with your family, friends, and neighbors to see how they are doing. If you or someone you know needs support, call the 24/7 Crisis Helpline at 512-472-HELP or learn more here: https://lnkd.in/drQHve96.

I am very excited to say that we launched the Mental Health Diversion Pilot with Integral Care-Austin, TX today. This is a good first step to start breaking the cycle of jail, living on the streets, then back to jail again that so many are stuck in–instead giving people mental health services and a path to stable supportive housing outside of the criminal justice system. Thank you to Integral Care, City of Austin, Central Health, Texas Health and Human Services, and everyone who helped us get this first step going. Much more work left to do–we can do it together.

When two Andys who love trains come together, you know it’s going to be a good time! 🚄 Excited to ride the rails with Andy Byford, Senior VP of High Speed Rail at Amtrak, to discuss expanding passenger rail service in Central Texas and beyond. We’re on track for a brighter future for passenger rail in Texas!

6:48am. It was dark and early as we heard Amtrak’s “All Aboard!” telling us to get on to join the train ride from San Antonio to Austin with leaders from Central Texas and Mexico. 🚊 Drank coffee as we talked about expanding passenger rail options between Travis County and Bexar County, and even to Mexico. Not a single one of these the whole way🚦
