About us

TowerPinkster is a firm of architects and engineers committed to design integrity, quality, and environmental responsibility. Our doors opened in 1953 with just six people and now we have more than 200 of the best employees in in the Midwest. We turn possibilities into realities. Most of our clients are in commercial, healthcare, K-12 education, higher education, and government. No two days are the same around our offices, but our philosophy about what we do and how we do it remains constant. We believe we can never do less than our best...for every client, every time. We believe that as an architecture and engineering firm, our commitment to sustainability can be no less than complete. Proof of this is that our Kalamazoo office is our industry’s first LEED-certified building in Michigan, and our Grand Rapids office earned LEED-Platinum - at the time the only A/E firm in the state to achieve this. TowerPinkster uses imagination, innovation, and integration to create bold, transforming results while providing superior service and project management. We are committed to the creative design of exceptional, high-performance, sustainable environments for our clients and our communities. We create an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration within our multi-disciplinary team to develop holistic solutions and successful designs.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our namesake, Bob Tower. Bob joined the firm, then known as Stapert, Pratt, Sprau & Associates, in 1968. By 1972, he had his name on the door and was making a lasting impact on the firm and our community. Bob received his architecture degree from the University of Michigan and was known throughout his career for his expertise in healthcare design. His work with local hospitals, specifically Bronson Healthcare, can still be seen today. Bob eventually rose to the position of CEO of TowerPinkster and is still remembered for his passion for community, kindness, and dedication to throwing one heck of a company holiday party. As we look back on Bob’s life, legacy, and impact on the firm, there is so much we could highlight. We are extremely thankful for Bob’s vision for our organization and the advice and support he gave well after retirement. In 2022, when TowerPinkster was named AIA Michigan’s Firm of the Year, Bob joined the current leadership to accept the award and celebrate the firm’s incredible history. In 2023, Bob was recognized by AIA Southwest Michigan with the Gold Award. The award was in celebration of a lifetime of contributions to the field of architecture and it was so well-deserved. Our hearts go out to Bob’s family and friends. Please join us in celebrating a life well lived.

Last week, we celebrated the ribbon cutting at the newly renovated Heritage Elementary in Byron Center. This building has a rich history, having served as a high school, an intermediate school, and now, an elementary school. We've had the privilege of partnering with Byron Center Public Schools for over 30 years, including a major renovation of this very building in 2005. It's incredible to witness the district's transformation and growth over the past two decades—what a difference 20 years makes! Check out some before and after photos photos below.
