Congratulations, Matthew Auchter, IP Occupational Therapist I, winner of the May Mountain Laurel Award! "Matt kindly and diplomatically was able to persuade my reluctant, elderly, frail husband to get out of bed and to walk the halls! This was no small feat! He even noticed my husband had barely eaten breakfast, so he heated up his oatmeal and got an Ensure Plus for him! He also was able to convince my husband to sit up out of bed in the chair. Matt then set up the chair alarm as well. Matt is extremely attentive to details relating to patient safety and well-being. I nominate him for his excellent bedside manner and ability to graciously encourage patients to MOVE!" Interested in working alongside our staff? Congratulations, Melissa Oaks, RN III MICU, winner of the May DAISY Award! "Recently I had a patient with a diagnosis new to me - cardiac tamponade. The patient was decompensating and I was awaiting transport to Reading Hospital via helicopter. When giving a report to the nominee, I included that I had never had a tamponade patient - the nominee was super understanding and asked questions that were pertinent to patient status. When discussing a specific assessment finding, the nominee told me that the patient was likely going to code very soon, get my attention, and not let the helicopter crew depart until the patient was more stable. As predicted, the patient quickly coded, but because of the nominee's advice, I was mentally prepared, the physician was at bedside, and I was able to assemble my co-workers to assist with the code. Not only did nominee help me foresee the cardiac arrest, but when she hadn’t heard from me to finish the report, she checked in to make sure I was okay. Nominee definitely made a difference in patient care while educating a less experienced ICU nurse!" Interested in working alongside our staff? 🎉 Wishing a very happy birthday to our incredible Tower Health CEO, P. Sue Perrotty! Get to know a little more about Sue ➡️ Born and raised in North Jersey, Sue grew up in a big Italian family. She moved to the Reading area in 1971 to attend Albright College, embracing Pennsylvania life while staying a Jersey Girl at heart! Sue’s love ❤️ for her job stems from her deep commitment to service. She takes pride in helping to make a difference in the lives of our patients and families. Growing up, Sue learned the value of doing for others and giving back from her hero, her mom. This philosophy is reflected in one of her favorite family mottos: “You give help when it is needed.” 🤝 Fun Fact: With a special connection to animals 🐾, Sue has been rescuing dogs for over 30 years! Currently, she has two pups – a French Bulldog named Billy 🐶 and a Boxer named Maverick 🐶. Here’s to celebrating you, Sue, and the positive impact you bring to our health system and the communities we serve every day. Happy Birthday! 🥳
