Toucan

Our first virtual networking event on the Toucan platform was a huge success and was a TON of fun. As usual, 🔌Stephen Sargeant brought the good questions, the fun, and almost as many facial expressions as Amanda Wick (and that's saying something...) Thank you to everyone who came out and asked wonderful questions, shared their experiences, and opened themselves up to making meaningful connections. I would greatly appreciate if you could read the following note: Over the past 3.5 years, my team and I have dedicated our hearts and souls to building Toucan. From the very first week I was sent home from Stanford due to Covid, I knew that I wanted to do whatever I could to bring communities and teams together virtually. Since then, Toucan has helped foster genuine connections and usher in our new normal. I’m so proud to say that our unique, beautiful, straightforward, natural, dynamic, fun video platform has brought over 80,000 people together to form real relationships online. That being said, a lot has changed in our business environment. Our loyal base of Toucan customers notwithstanding, we have had difficulty growing as a standalone product. There are several factors that contribute to this, namely the fact that our space is rather crowded, with large incumbents like Microsoft, Google, and Zoom. Additionally, post-Covid, the pendulum has swung drastically in the opposite direction, resulting in many organizers favoring in-person events over virtual ones (despite the constant demand for a “remote option”). It’s become increasingly clear that the best way to help Toucan grow is to find a new home for it within another platform. Our team is committed to finding the right company to buy Toucan and incorporate it into their product for social and/or collaborative purposes. We’re looking for a company that cares about building connections among groups of distributed people (think virtual events, creative collaboration, training/onboarding sessions, etc.). If there is any part of you that thinks that your company could be a good fit, please reach out to me. Our main priority is to ensure that Toucan continues to live on in good, capable hands.
