“I believe that everyone should be the CEO of their own business and lives, and I love that that's what this program promotes,” Jael said. “If prison allows you to lose sight of that, then you have Breakthrough to come in and say, ‘You're still a boss.’” Thank you to Rocky Mountain PBS for another wonderful article highlighting our program 'The Challenge' and Check out the article below ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ https://lnkd.in/gM8VFf6E

We help people who have been incarcerated redefine their futures and breakthrough to a better tomorrow.
About us
We are a 501c3 non-profit organization that prides itself in transforming the lives of people with criminal histories and the community’s perception of the incarcerated population. Our holistic approach includes an in-prison career education program, community engagement, re-entry support, a fair opportunity hiring program, and criminal justice advocacy initiatives. Our in-prison program teaches job readiness and character development through PAIRIN, a research-based tool kit. The last half of the program is focused on the entrepreneurial mindset, in which individuals create a business idea. Our program welcomes community members to come into prison with us as mentors. During a participant’s initial reentry, staff will connect them to wraparound services, as well as to volunteer mentor support from the community. Our support extends past release, staff maintains contact every week for the first month of re-entry. Additionally, our Fair Opportunity Employment project works to recruit fair opportunity partners and develop resources/tools to support in hiring and maintaining fair opportunity talent. Lastly, advocacy is an essential part of working in the criminal justice sector. Through the spread of information and engagement initiates we are advocating for a more fair and productive justice system. We believe in humans, and in our shared humanity because we know that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and challenged to rise above their past to break through to a better tomorrow.

CONVICTION ISN'T JUST ABOUT GUILT - IT'S ABOUT ‘STEPPING TO THE LINE’ There is a saying many of us have heard: "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." Now, I am not a person who quotes Bible scripture or is an evangelist by any stretch, which is why it is unusual for me to quote scripture because of the hypocrisy I so often see. So maybe it's more appropriate I say something like, "Think you're perfect? Then go ahead and call me out." So let me wrap this in some form of context. 🚀 Volunteering with Breakthrough 🚀 I'm thrilled to share I have signed up for another volunteer opportunity with Breakthrough, a remarkable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to transforming lives. Breakthrough provides vital support to individuals with criminal histories, helping them pave the way to a brighter future. 🌟 Their mission extends beyond personal transformation; they are committed to reshaping community perceptions and challenging outdated views of the incarcerated population. Through education and advocacy, Breakthrough fosters understanding and empathy, championing the belief that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and given a chance to rise above their past. Being part of the Breakthrough community, I witness firsthand the power of believing in our shared humanity. Each individual is given the opportunity to break through to a better tomorrow, and it's inspiring to see the impact this program has on both individuals and communities. On August 7th, House Bill 1004, which was sponsored by Democratic Reps. Jennifer Bacon (she, her) of Denver and Shannon Bird of Westminster, went into effect, which bars state licensing boards from considering criminal convictions more than three years after a conviction or the completion of a sentence, whichever comes later. And when boards with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies do consider past convictions, they can only do so if the criminal record relates directly to a particular profession. Learn more about this bill at the link, and how it is creating upward economic mobility and career opportunities for justice impacted individuals returning home and entering the workforce. #reentry #reentrymatters #fairchancehiring https://lnkd.in/gQCd-DDJ

Welcome home Monica! Here she is pictured with her reentry pack (donated by members of Mile High SHRM) after her Welcome Home meeting. She also had some exciting news to share with the Breakthrough community: "I [recently] got accepted to become an intern at Serenity Recovery Connections [to be a] Peer Recovery Coach - thank [you] for the mock interviews and the modules. It [eased] my getting back to the community to pursue my passion. Breakthrough was the best investment I made.... Thank you for believing in us!" #reentryprogram #reentrymatters

In-person interactions with volunteers provide our participants with hope and increased self-confidence, supporting them to transform attitudes and successfully return to the community upon release. But... we often hear that our volunteers receive a lot more than they give. Breakthrough volunteers experience tremendous growth as they develop empathy for an overlooked and stigmatized population. Perhaps best of all, they often become advocates who help shift societal perceptions to build stronger communities and open doors to future opportunities. We are so grateful for our volunteers that dedicate their time to supporting our participants as they breakthrough to a better tomorrow! ❗❗ We have three milestone events coming up that we need volunteers for ❗❗ 👉 Kickoff at Skyline Correctional Center on August 27th - deadline to sign up is July 31st: https://lnkd.in/gM7FSB-w 👉 Business Pitch Bootcamp at AVCF on September 10th - deadline to sign up is August 2nd: https://lnkd.in/geGpRCiZ 👉 Business Pitch Bootcamp at CCF on September 17th - deadline to sign up is August 9th: https://lnkd.in/gn9gv_fP

Maintaining contact with loved ones during incarceration is crucial for the mental and emotional well-being of incarcerated individuals, providing them with essential support and a sense of connection. It allows individuals to maintain familial relationships so they have a supportive environment to come home to when they are released. Unfortunately, the cost of phone calls from prison can be astronomical, especially when the majority of the prison population earns $0.25 per hour or less working in their "prison jobs." Thankfully, the FCC has taken the steps to to lower price caps on prison phone calls and closed a loophole that allowed prison telecoms to charge high rates for intrastate calls. The vote will cut the price of interstate calls in half and set price caps on intrastate calls for the first time.
