It’s not enough to defend against attacks on DEI. We need to proactively build a movement for an inclusive and equitable society, and infrastructure that shifts power to communities of color leading systemic change. Last week, Tides CEO Janiece Evans-Page joined Stacey Abrams and Robert Raben at Raben's #DemocracyHouse to discuss how we can all work together to support and strengthen the ongoing movement for DEI. Tides is honored to be part of this inspiring conversation with these transformational leaders.

Through Tides Foundation, The Upwork Foundation donates between $500k to $1.5M each year to close the global opportunity gap by connecting marginalized communities with life-sustaining knowledge work, no matter their location. And they're continuously evolving their funding strategy to lean into trust-based philanthropy and better support grant applicants. Here’s what that looks like: ➡️ A lower applicant to grantee ratio, with the explicit goal to fund one in three organizations that submit an application this year. ➡️ Revised application and reporting requirements that reduce the burden on applicants. “If we don’t care what the answer is, we won’t ask the question.” ➡️ One-on-one feedback sessions for every applicant after grants are awarded. Read more about how The Upwork Foundation—with Tides’ support—is reducing the burden on grant applicants so they can spend more time changing the world and less time filling out forms.

A report from the Young, Black, and Giving Back Institute found that more than half of Black-led nonprofits surveyed would shut down if they lost one or two key funders. What are you doing to build a future in which Black-led, Black-serving nonprofits—organizations that have a huge impact and could do even more with more resources—get the funding they need and deserve? #BlackPhilanthropyMonth #BPM2024

Black women have always led the fight for our democracy. Let’s amplify that impact. Yesterday, Tides CEO Janiece Evans-Page joined LaTosha Brown, Melanie Campbell, and Brittany Packnett Cunningham at Raben's #DemocracyHouse to talk about the role Black women have played in saving our democracy and discuss how allies and institutions can support these efforts. Thanks to everyone who participated in this powerful conversation!
