We are excited to announce that we will be an exhibitor at LASER World of Photonics India this year! Visit us at booth #LD09 to see our picosecond microchip lasers, extinction ratio meters, and small beam diameter scanning galvo mirror systems. Our technical experts can direct you to a catalog product or discuss a custom solution. Browse our full portfolio of laser solutions at https://lnkd.in/eWmz2dni. Our Extinction Ratio Meters, such as the ERM200, measure the polarization angle and extinction ratio (ER) of polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers. These units are useful in alignment applications such as connectorization of PM fibers or pigtailing of laser diodes with PM fibers. Thorlabs' Q-Switched Picosecond Microchip Lasers are compact laser systems designed to provide a turnkey, alignment-free solution for picosecond pulses at 1030 nm or 1064 nm! Our high-speed Scanning Galvanometer Mirror Positioning Systems are designed for integration into OEM or custom laser beam steering applications that utilize laser beams smaller than 5 mm in diameter. See you November 7-9 at the Jio World Convention Centre!

In 2020, Thorlabs began a new chapter in its growth and evolution when Jenn Cable took over as President, marking an important transition and a new era for Thorlabs. Jenn's forward-thinking approach and commitment to an inclusive work environment has fostered a culture of collaboration, innovation, and growth at Thorlabs, empowering teams to push the boundaries of photonics technology while ensuring a lasting commitment to our customers and employees. We have continued to evolve, with a new headquarters building opening in 2022 across the street from our prior one, which was renovated for dedicated use by our optics and fiber teams. We also have new facilities in both the UK and Germany as well as a new metal finishing shop in Newton, NJ. Today, Thorlabs has more than 1 million square feet of vertically integrated manufacturing space designed to meet the evolving and growing demands of the photonics market! Thorlabs continues to be committed to fostering strong connections with our local communities through various STEM initiatives and to building an inclusive and diverse industry. Through our Mobile Lab and Video Insights initiatives, we’ve introduced new ways to educate and interact with the photonics community. These educational endeavors help us raise awareness of photonics, expand access, and inspire the next generation that will soon join the photonics community! Our company has come a long way since our founding in 1989, and our journey is far from over. With a focus on pushing technological boundaries and maintaining close relationships with our customers, Thorlabs remains committed to shaping the future of photonics and advancing scientific discovery for decades to come! #Thorlabs35 #TeamThorlabs #photonics #optics #quantum

Our new Video Insight explores an often-overlooked effect: reflection from metallic mirrors can cause polarization change!   Two metallic mirrors positioned at 45° are often used to set beam height and direction. When S- or P-polarized light reflects from one of those mirrors, the polarization is maintained. However, other input linear polarization states can become elliptical. This effect, while not always problematic, can lead to unexpected results if the application is polarization-sensitive.    In this video, we explore these concepts and show what to expect when different linear polarization states reflect from a protected silver mirror oriented at a 45° angle. The polarization state of the incident light is determined using measurements taken with a polarimeter constructed from a quarter-wave plate, linear polarizer, and power sensor. Our Stokes parameter calculations take into account the wave plate’s actual retardance, which improves accuracy. The polarization state of the reflected light is measured using a turnkey polarimeter, whose polarization ellipse display is used to visualize the dynamic polarization changes that occur as the incident linear polarization state rotates between S- and P-polarized light. #ThorlabsInsights #Thorlabs #photonics

As we continue the journey through our history, we arrive at the mid-to-late 2000s, which saw the release of Thorlabs’ first Polaris® Mirror Mount! The goal was to have the best performing off-the-shelf line of mounts available. To achieve this, every aspect of the mount from the materials chosen to the way the optic is held was researched and tested until we knew what combination achieved the best performance and why. Today the Polaris product line thrives, with new innovative solutions being added every year, like the recent Vertical Drive Mirror Mounts and the XY Positioning Lens Mounts. The need for automation in photonics experiments and applications continues to increase. In 2006 the T-Cube™ line of controllers was introduced. The innovative T-Cubes were designed to be compact, low-cost, scalable, plug-and-play solutions that could be easily deployed without the need for advanced automation experience. The concept lives on in the updated K-cube series, and we are continuing to develop solutions for the next generation of photonics applications. While Thorlabs continues to evolve our portfolio of core photonics equipment, we also remain passionate about new technologies and the frontiers of photonics. These ambitions led us to make a series of investment acquisitions in MIR technologies. Notably, we became one of the few manufactures of fluoride fiber and quantum cascade lasers. These capabilities inspired us to build out all the supporting optics, detectors, and other basics needed to work in this spectral region! #Thorlabs #Thorlabs35 #TeamThorlabs #photonics #optics #quantum

As a continuation of our 35-year history journey, the late 1990s and early 2000s was a time of international expansion for Thorlabs, with the opening of our first European sales office in Germany in 1997 followed by the establishment of design and manufacturing facilities in Germany, the UK, and Sweden, with a sales office in Japan, all by 2004. Today the organization has 22 worldwide locations in 9 countries, each with different design and manufacturing specialties. Each of our locations provides a local presence within the community it serves, enabling dialogues that better inform our understanding of regional needs and how they fit within the worldwide picture. 2024 marks a milestone for four of our entities. We’d like to congratulate Thorlabs, LTD and Thorlabs Sweden AB on their 20th anniversaries and Thorlabs Ultrafast Optoelectronics in Michigan and Thorlabs Canada on their 10-year anniversaries! Each entity has played a role in helping to advance photonics through the products they design and manufacture. #Thorlabs #Thorlabs35 #TeamThorlabs #photonics #optics #quantum
